8/10
Alrighty, it's been a while since I finished a book, and even longer since I finished a book in a day, but on Saturday, I finally got to sit down and do it. I read The Maze Runner, and now I really want to see the movie.
I know I'm late to hop on the bandwagon and all, seeing how the book is like five years old, but I actually think I read it five years ago, I just forgot everything except for the slide part at the end. For some strange reason, that's all I remembered from the entire book.
And no, that isn't spoilery, if you're wondering. There's a slide. Wheeee.
Anyway.
It's a fabulous book. It has to be, if it kept me engaged all day. My attention span is lessening, and I can't watch TV shows for too long anymore, but put a book like this in front of me and I'm gone. There are parts where the writing seems forced, but they're few and forgivable. But for the most part, I really enjoyed it. The action was good, the plot twists were decent, the humor and bromances were on point.
This might be potentially spoilery but I have to say it. How can there not be any gay relationships among the boys? Like, think about it. Put a whole bunch of guys together for two freaking years, and there's gotta be something that happens. Newt and Alby have gotta be at least a little gay by then.
I was in the middle of reading it and I started shipping the boys then I slapped myself because this is technically a children's book. But then I remembered Rick Riordan and wondered why not James Dashner?
I still need to get around to reading Blood of Olympus. I'll get to it eventually.
Alrighty, there's the end of that. Now for the SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
WHAT THE ACTUAL SHUCKING SHUCK, CHUCK????????? hOW FREAKING --- NOOO. NOT COOL. NONE AT ALL.
Moving on.
The whole time I was reading, I kept imagining Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt and it made the whole thing that much more enjoyable. Like they're both such cute little buggers.
This review is going to be cut short because I don't remember much of the book anymore because as of two lines ago, it's been a week since I actually finished it, and the past seven days have been terribly stressful.
So yeah. Bye.
