Ages 10+
Let me start off by saying that I'd been intending to read this for a while. I got it from my friend two days ago, and finished it today. It has been a while since I read like this, and Uglies was the perfect book to bring me out of my reading slump.
It was just an amazing book. Very well written. Amazing, unique plot and characters.
Basically, it's about a society where instead of equality being defined by social status, etc., equality is defined by beauty. All children are raised with the belief that they are born ugly and hideous. At their sixteenth birthdays, though, they undergo a surgery that makes them perfect, beautiful. Stuff goes down, there's a rebellion of sorts, and yeah. It's really good.
Just read it.
Seriously.
Do it.
Now.

sorry. i had to.
OKAY GUYS
The part of the book that really made me happy and emotional was right after the Specials find the Smoke, and they burn the place to shit, and take everyone but Tally and David. Yes? So, like, the next day, when the two go back to the camp? Yeah. And then Tally finds everyone's shoes all left behind for her, because Croy probably told everyone that she didn't have shoes, so they all gave her theirs....
AGH! SO MANY FEELS!
And then of course there's the whole Tally/David thing, which was adorable (though a little forced, I think).
I'm just wondering what happens with Peris. I HAVEN'T READ THE LAST 3 BOOKS SO DON'T YOU DARE SPOIL ME, YOUNG PEOPLE.
Cuz now Tally's gonna be pretty (unless they just straight out kill her, which will make me sad, because that means the other books will be from a different perspective, which will only piss me off). And maybe David won't forgive her, and he'll never come and get her from New Pretty Town, and maybe she'll escape and discover the last of the Smokies, and shit will go down and stuff.
Idk just senseless random rambling.
Seriously though, I wanna read the next ones.
Partially because the cover art is so gorgeous. I'm talking the white covers. I think they're the new ones? Whatever. They're just so elegant and beautiful. The only reason I'm paying $25 for the box set.
Anyway. That's my rant on Uglies. Twas a great book, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them.
