-Recently a guy from work had asked me out. He was very cute and I decided that even though I didn't have feelings for him I'd give him a chance. I hoped that the feelings would eventually come, but I was wrong. As a last ditch effort I scheduled a double with my best guy friend Jongin and my best girlfriend, Mina. Secretly, I had a small crush on Jongin. But he was one of my best friends, and I didn't want to jeopardize that. I thought maybe if I saw him with someone my feelings would fade. I had been itching to get together with them anyway, and now at least I wouldn't be alone with the guy from work.
When I arrived at the restaurant with my date I spotted them instantly. Mina and Jongin knew eachother but not all that well. Seeing them together made me feel a pang of jealousy, but I reminded myself he wasn't mine. As I approached the table they both looked up and greeted us.
"Its so nice to see you y/n!" Mina gushed, jumping up to gave me a hug.
"You too!" I replied with a smile. I leaned closer to whisper in her ear. "Have fun with Jongin, told you I'd set you guys up eventually."
"Thank you!! He's so cute!" She whispered back with a giggle.
"Hey y/n how have you been!" Jongin said grinning.
"I've been good! Guys this is y/bf/n!" I answered, introducing my date.
Mina shouted a quick hello and flashed her signature smile. Jongin's grinned was short lived and he greeted y/bf/n with a grunt.
I coughed to break the awkward silence. "So, have you guys ordered?"
"Nope." They answered in unison and Mina laughed. "Twinning!" She cheered.
"Ok well lets order then." I said attempting to save the evening.
The rest of dinner was just as awkward as the begining, and I realized that I would have to break up with y/b/f/n as stringing him along would be very unfair.
Jongin, who was usually quite talkative, hardly spoke and stared daggers into my date. To which I found very odd. Mina looked quite defeated after attempting to get Jongin's attention over and over.
"Jongin.." Mina whined grabing his hand.
"What!" He snapped, snatching his hand away.
Mina stuttered for a moment, her whole face turned bright red before excusing herself to go to the bathroom. After she was out of earshot I turned to Jongin.
"What the hell was that!" I exclaimed, turning to the 'jerk' who was my friend.
He hung his head low and muttered "sorry" before getting up from the table.
I quickly followed pulling him to an empty corner. "Listen! I understand if you don't like Mina like that, but you don't have to treat her like crap! She really liked you and you were so cruel!"
"Well I never asked her to like me and I definetly never asked you to set me up with her." Jongin replied with mocking tone.
"What is with you tonight! You're acting so rude and childish!" I countered.
"You really want know!?" He said raising his voice. At this point other customers were turning their heads in order to figure out what was unfolding.
"Yes!" I responded equally as loud.
Jongin's hands were balled into tight fists and for a moment I thought he was going to hit something. "I'm tired of seeing you with other guys. I'm so sick of pretending my feelings aren't real," He continued, "but most of all, I'm scared that a guy will come along that will make you happy and it won't be me."
I stood in stunned silence. This was the last thing I expected Jongin to say.
"So you like me?" I gulped, not believing my own ears.
He let out a breathy laugh. "I'm in love with you y/n, have been for the past couple of years."
"Wow." Was all I could manage to get out.
"Its ok if you don't feel the same way, I just needed to get this off my chest." Jongin added, "Just promise me you won't bring me on dates anymore."
I grinned. "I can't promise you that," before he could object I continued, "because what if I want to go on a date with you."
It took him a minute to process what I had just said. "Wait, really?"
"Really." I answered. "But first I have to go break it off with my current boyfriend."
"Yeah you should probably go do that, and I'll apologize to Mina." Jongin said, taking off to find my friend.
"Oh my gosh, I forgot about Mina! I can't do this to her!" I panicked and bit my lip nervously.
"Its ok." Mina piped up from behind me. "I'll get over him, besides, I'm not about to stand in between two people who clearly have feelings for each other."
"Thank you so much!" I gushed enveloping her in a hug. "I owe you."
"What are friends for." She replied with a smile.
I slowly pulled away from her embrace. "Ok now I got to go break up with someone."
"Fighting!" She laughed and pushed me towards my now ex-boyfriend.
You can imagine how well he took the news, lets just its going to be an awkward couple days at work. After I sorted out all the drama I felt so relieved. I had an awesome friend and I could be with the person I wanted to be with.
*~*
"What are you thinking about?" I whispered to Jongin while on our way home.
"I'm thinking about how lucky I am to have the girl of my dreams." He responded nonchalantly.
And I knew then that this was the begining of something amazing.
