I sighed and rubbed my forehead, desperately trying to think of a decent conclusion to my report. Unfortunately I came up empty handed.
"Come on Janea think." I whispered to myself. "You just need a couple sentences to sum everything up."
Still nothing. I groaned and ran my hands through my hair.
"Knock knock!" My coworker chirped, peeking into my office. "I'm leaving, you almost done?"
I forced a small smile. "Um yeah almost, just need to finish my report."
"Oh come on that can wait til the morning. Isn't it your birthday today? You should be out celebrating with that boyfriend of yours!"
"Of course, I totally forgot." I lied. "Silly me."
My coworker smiled and gave a small nod. "Goodnight!"
"Goodnight!" I waved and watched her leave.
It was my birthday and I should be celebrating, but my boyfriend was busy and I didn't have many friends outside of work. In all honesty I was a little disappointed, but I also understood his situation.
After staring at my computer screen for another twenty minutes I finally gave up and packed up my belongings.
I walked out of the large building and into the cool night air. It felt nice to finally leave my stuffy office.
Luckily it didn't take me long to reach my building. I slumped against my apartment door, struggling to find my keys. Apparently they had fallen to the bottom of my bag without my notice and were now stuck between my wallet and notebook. When I finally opened the door I was greeted by shouts of "Happy Birthday Janea!" and "Suprise!".
I was completely stunned and instantly dropped my bags when confetti shot out of no where covering me in sparkles. In a second I was swept off my feet and twirled around the room, it was then I noticed my boyfriend Mark was the cause.
"Happy birthday babe!" He cheered setting me down gently.
Now that I was over the initial shock I noticed the rest of Mark's friends all standing around with smiles plastered on their faces. "Thank you so much guys, this really means a lot!" I said sincerely.
"There were more people but it turns out I'm really bad at planning so by the time you got home almost everyone had left..." Mark admitted, scratching the back of his neck nervously. "Apparently you need someone to wait with the person being surprised so that they don't come back too early, or in this case to make they come back at all."
"Its fine Mark really," I assured, "You have no idea how much this means to me. I thought I was going to be alone."
I had started to tear up and was now frantically trying to cover it up.
"I would never leave you alone on your birthday." Mark cooed, wiping the tears from my cheeks. "I tried to make it extra special since I'm gone all the time. I know its hard on you."
"Give credit where credit is due Mark." Jinyoung interjected, disrupting the moment.
"Yeah we worked really hard Janea!" Jackson chimed in. "Mark had us working from the moment you left this morning!"
"Did you know you had sour milk in your fridge?" Yugyeom asked suddenly. "Because I sure didn't. I had to find out the hard way."
"Oh no, you didn't!" I laughed. "Yugyeom that milk has been there since the day I moved in!" This caused all of us to laugh at poor Yugyeom.
After we settled down I hugged each and every one of them, thanking them for the best birthday ever. I then returned to Mark on the couch, who wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top on my head.
"Happy birthday, I love you so much Janea." He whispered in my ear, pulling me closer.
I gave him a quick peck before replying. "I love you too."
