It was a cold evening, not cold enough to snow but enough to make anyone think twice about going out. The cold never seemed to bother me though, I relished the feeling of the cold air against my cheeks.
Today was like any other day. I worked my shift at the small secondhand bookstore down the street. It was an old building, but I loved the job nonetheless.
Every night I wandered down to the cafe, which wasn't far from my apartment. They had the best hot chocolate, plus the place was usually empty at night. I wasn't a fan of crowed places, people gave me anxiety. Besides, people always seem to want something and I was always sceptical when someone started a conversation with me.
I watched the waitress talk to one of the usuals, she always insisted on taking his order even though he had same thing everynight. If it wasn't for his age I'd say she was flirting with him.
The door chimed, signaling someone had entered the cafe. I craned my neck to see who it was. To my surprise it was a stranger. Granted, everyone at the cafe was stranger to me but I recognized all the regulars, and he definitely wasn't one of them.
The young man walked over to the regester and started up a casual conversation with the waitress. Maybe they know eachother, but the way she acted around him told me otherwise.
I tore my eyes away from the two and continue to read. That's what I came here to do anyways. The cafe was my special place, my escape. I was never bothered here, however that was going to change.
"Whatcha reading?"
I looked up to see the young man who had entered moments before. He had dark brown eyes, one could almost get lost in them if they weren't careful. His hair was a dirty blonde and spiked up in places. But my attention wasn't on his eyes or hair, it was his voice. He had only said two words to me but it was enough for me to be slightly interested.
"Nothing." I replied with a sly smile, placing my book on the table.
"Looks like you were reading..." He paused, turning my book over to read the cover. "Go Set A Watchman? That sounds boring."
"Maybe to you, people like yourself don't appreciate good literature." I responded, my friendlyness dying away at his statement.
He proceeded to sit down across from me, sipping his coffee while looking me over.
"My name's Taehyung." He said cheerfully, setting his coffee down on the table.
I debated giving a fake name but then decided against it. He seemed like a nice enough guy anyway. Besides, the quicker I answer him the quicker he leaves.
"I'm y/n." I muttered, offering a small smile. "You're new around here, aren't you?"
He grinned. "How'd you know?"
"Well I know all the regulars, plus you talk funny." I said, stifling a laugh.
"Do I really talk funny?" Taehyung asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yep." I answered, returning to my book. Hopefully he'd get the hint and leave.
"Well I'm only here for a few months anyway. I wanted to explore a bit and I ended up here."
"Mmh." I hummed, attempting to ignore him.
My book was yanked from my hands and I looked up in surprise. "That's rude." Taehyung scolded, hiding a smile.
"Well you're the one who came over and bothered me. I didn't even say you could sit here." I huffed, reaching for my book.
"Well I saw a pretty girl and I wanted to talk to her."
My eyes widen and I feel my cheeks burn. He thinks I'm pretty? "Just give me my book back, please."
"Only if you give me your number." Taehyung smirked, clearly thinking he had won.
"Oh well in that case you can keep the book." I countered, gathering my belongings and getting up from the table. "Have a nice night."
This Taehyung guy had completely ruined my evening. Talking to him was most definitely a mistake.
"Y/n wait!" Taehyung yelled, running up to me. "If I read the book, will you give me your number?"
I pondered his deal for a minute. There's no way he'd read the book, would he? I looked him over. Expensive shoes, name brand clothes. No he's too stuck up to read a book.
"OK Taehyung, I'll meet you here at the end of the week. If you read the book and prove to me you read it. I'll consider giving you my number."
"Really? Great! I'll see you then!" He smiled, giving me a thumbs up.
I rolled my eyes but smiled nonetheless. In all honesty, he was kinda cute. Too cute for someone like me.
Taehyung skipped out the door with the book in his hand, humming a tune that sounded familiar. However I couldn't seem to place it.
I stared out the cafe window, watching him walk down the street, his dirty blonde hair disappearing into the crowd. The door open with a ring, snapping me back to reality.
I walked out into the crisp winter air, savouring every second. Something soft and cold glided through the air, landing on my arm. It had started to snow.
