Xavier's School, 7th July 1984
Lynn's POV
Work hard and play hard was practically Raven's life motto and absolutely no one could epitomise the phrase better than her.
While she was effectively strict during her hours as the X-Men's instructor, she never failed to remind us of her inherent whimsical and cheeky side, that retained despite her concealed motherhood, whenever she was not suited up in the basement.
After teatime and parading in her trendy outfit around the campus that was still actively functioning in the midst of summer now that most of the kids remained here during the supposed vacation period anyway, Raven reveled in the multiple wishes she had been greeted with as we easily weaved through the heaps of carefree students who naturally parted to the sides, paving an aisle for us.
Expectedly, under Charles' wise leadership, the institute had flourished rapidly and drastically since its reopening but remained as nothing more than a mere boarding school for young mutants that was located in the rich estate of North Salem to the vast human population.
"Your husband is ridiculous!" She exclaimed as we paced along the intertwining corridors.
"He's so mean!" She grumbled, swinging her arms around in a highly agitated and animated fashion, almost striking some of the children that passed us by.
"Why did you marry him?!" She interrogated and I froze in position, staring discriminately at her with crossed arms as we arrived at the door of Charles' study.
"You're weighing a day's leave against my lifetime's happiness?" I challenged in amusement, condoning her childish comments no longer.
"That's my lifetime's happiness," she retorted pompously and while she probably meant it directly, it was so incredibly apt for the agenda of the day I hoped her mind was still ignorant to.
"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had," I reminded kindly, subtly changing the subject as I maintained a continuous and conscious effort to contain my excitement.
She rolled her eyes at the quote and shoved open the door without knocking, stunning Charles and the small group of students seated before his desk as she blatantly strode in.
"Your wife is taunting me with your love rival again!" Raven whined, disregarding the inappropriateness of her statement before the underaged crowd.
"Happy birthday, Mystique!" The kids squealed nonetheless and Charles' dazed expression persisted as he peeped at his watch.
"At least someone remembers," Raven remarked sarcastically as she ruffled with some of the students' hair in appreciation of their attention.
Charles' lips gradually twitched into a smile and he laughingly dismissed his class, but transformed into a stern one at Raven as the children scampered through the exit.
"What did I say about doors and knocking, Raven?" Charles chastised, standing up from his seat as we strolled towards each other.
"What did I say about getting a day off on my birthday, Professor?!" Raven countered accusingly, obviously disgruntled that she was granted none on this very day as she plopped herself lazily into one of the seats that was recently vacated.
Charles recognised that my escalating dilemma was rapidly bursting through its seams and quickly surrounded me in his arms, soothing me as he rubbed my back and kissed my temple.
Just let her be. It'll be over soon, Charles coaxed and smiled graciously at me, inducing a similar one to spread on my face as I looped my arms around him.
