Lynn's POV
As we came to the hallway leading up to Charles' classroom, his beautiful voice reciting my favourite passage from 'The Once and Future King' resonated to my ears.
"To break forth bloodily, then the past must be obliterated and a new start made. Let us now start fresh without remembrance, rather than live forward and backward at the same time," Charles read aloud to the class, emphasizing relevant emotions along the sentences as he spoke.
"Now, what on earth do we think that the author meant when he wrote all that?" Charles asked as he swiveled his chair in the middle of his group of students who were seated around him.
Several of them quickly raised their hands, Jubilee in particular, eager to answer his question and Charles was about to proceed with the lesson when I distracted him on purpose.
Charles, we have guests, I informed as Alex, Scott and Hank strolled alongside me towards to him.
Charles looked up briefly from his book as he continued to rotate his chair but stopped immediately when he had a glimpse of us approaching.
"That's going to be your assignment for tomorrow," Charles radically changed his mind upon registering our presence.
"Top marks, everyone. Class dismissed," he announced, keeping his eyes on us while his students dispersed.
Despite their earlier enthusiasm, children will be children and they they ran off excitedly like all the others when their class ended prematurely to their delight.
"Alex! It's good to see you," Charles exclaimed as he set his book beside his lap.
"Ah, you too," Alex replied as he bent forward and the men reunited with a brief hug and a firm handshake.
"You look well. It's been awhile," Charles remarked as he too scrutinized our old teammate after having not seen him for almost a decade now.
"It has. Not too bad yourselves," Alex complimented in return as he gestured at us when I drove myself beside Charles.
"Thank you," Charles acknowledged sincerely and faced towards me.
Hello, my love, I heard in my mind as Charles took my hand and pecked the back of it.
Hello, my dear, I thought with a smile.
Skimming through his handsome tweed suit and that vertically striped muted round neck shirt we chose together in a quaint Parisian boutique, I returned my gaze to his face, surprised to find him ogling me up and down. His eyes gradually swept from my black knit pullover to the ash blue pleated skirt I had on, eventually lingering on my exposed calves, essentially behaving like he had not already seen my outfit when he insisted on dressing me this morning after we made out.
It's really not me, you should be checking out now, I joked and squeezed his palm, guiding his gaze back to Alex and Scott.
"This is my brother, Scott," Alex introduced as Charles regained his poise of a Headmaster.
"Hello, Scott. Welcome to the school for the gifted," Charles greeted warmly.
"Yeah. Doesn't exactly feel like a gift," Scott scorned, obviously developing a dislike for the place and his powers.
"It never does, at first," Charles sighed.
"Why don't you tell me more about it?" He suggested and we all proceeded to Charles' study to obtain further insight on Scott's mutation.
"How did it start?" Charles probed as Scott settled into his seat.
