The room was silent apart from the beeping of the monitors, Alex gripped your hand as he looked at your pale face. You were getting weaker by the minute yet he couldn't let you go. His heart was aching as he let another tear fall down his face.
"Alex" You hoarsely spoke "Baby look at me"
His eyes slowly tore away from the wall and his gaze was now on you. The anger he felt was pulsing through his veins but it was quickly being swallowed by the pain. The pain of knowing that today was the last day he'd ever get to hear your voice,see your smile, feel the warmth of your touch on his skin.
"How could you keep this from me?" He whispered "how could you not tell me you were dying?"
"Alex, my heart has been giving out on me for years but it started to get worse as the year passed by" You began the tears clouding your vision "I wanted to spend as much time with you as I could before it happened. I didn't want you to worry"
"I could've prepared myself to lose the love of my life damn it!" He yelled "I need more time with you"
"I'm afraid I can't give you that Alex" You quietly respond "the doctor says it'll only be a few hours until my heart stops"
"I don't want you to leave me" Alex cries
"Trust me, I don't want to leave you either Alex" You cried
"Then stay with me, fight for me. We can be happy together and have a future together" He choked "We can get that tan house with the white fence and have a dog and kids" He smiled tears still falling from his eyes.
"I want that Alex" You cried "I want that with all my heart but I'm tired. I can't fight anymore, I fought to stay with you but it's just too much for me now. My heart is ready to snap i cant take anything else Alex I'm sorry"
"Don't be sorry" He whispered kissing your hand "I'm being selfish"
"I love you Alex. I love you so damn much"
"I love you too Y/N"
"Don't you ever forget how much I love you" You quietly sob "Promise me you'll find a girl who will love you more than I ever could"
"Y/N.."
"Promise me Alex!" You coughed "Promise me you'll get over this and be happy please"
"I promise" He whispered kissing you one last time
He pulled away as your body began to shut down, your breaths coming in short and rapid. His eyes widened as the monitors began to beep loudly.
"I love you" You weakly smiled still holding his hand.
Alex watched as your eyes slowly closed, your hand falling from his. The doctors rushed in with nurses but they couldn't do anything, you were gone.Alex silently wiped away his tears in the corner watching as the doctor tried to revive you.
"Leave her alone" Alex yelled pulling him off "She wants this. She's tired"
The doctor only nodded letting the girl that laid on the bed slip away into the arms of death. Alex walked out of the room and saw all of his friends.
"Alex?" David was the first to speak "is she okay?"
"She's gone David" Alex said his words were shaky and lips were trembling as he spoke.
"Alex.."David muttered pulling in the boy for a hug
"She's gone" Alex croaked crying even harder than he was before.
David and Alex stood there just hugging one another and one by one everyone had wrapped themselves around the two hugging each other and crying. Their hearts were broken. They had lost a friend, someone very close and important to them.
"David I want to go home"Alex whispered "I can't be here any longer"
"Okay Alex" David nodded taking the broken boy with him. As they walked down the hall Alex looked back one last time, he was going to keep his promise to you but he needed time.
