Trainer Leaf and her friends survived the S.S. Anne crash initiated by the strange Pokémon Mewtwo, whom had disappeared without a trace. Never to be heard or seen again.
Meanwhile, Red, Blue and Yellow retrieve the caged Pikachu within the vessel in order to return the stolen Pikachu to the Chairman of the Pokémon fan club, in exchange for an item for an upcoming race taking place on Route 9.
Red has a heart to heart with Leaf about his past. He iterated to Leaf of an event that ultimately hindered Red's enthusiasm to become the Pokémon Champion. The boy, sadly, fell into a depression, and the one thing that kept that spark going, were the Pokémon he had captured along the way.
While arriving back into Vermillion City. The gang reunited the Pikachu with the Pokémon Chairman and by his grace provided a voucher ticket to exchange for a Bicycle for the upcoming bike racing contest.
Little did they know, that there was a mysterious young boy with an enigmatic Ghost type Pokémon that had the ability to change the outcome of Trainer Leaf's events, for good, or evil.
