My footsteps clammer up the hill, as I race higher and higher to the top. The clouds shimmering a brilliant white above the blue morning sky from the blazing sun.

I had finally arrived, sweaty, but out of breath near the brown maple doors of Professor Oaks prestigious laboratory. My heart pounded with every beat to my throat, I couldn't breathe.

This is it, I thought to myself. I will be able to get my very first Pokémon! But what type is it, and does Red and Blue have one of their own?

Pokémon were never a commodity in my family. So this was a good chance as ever, to obtain a partner I could call my own. Sensing this was going to be a challenge however, I was willing to let fate decide on who would be my equal in battle.

Raising my tender curled fist I gently nudged against the hollowed wooden door. After several taps, I heard a voice call out from inside the building.

"Come in," squeaked Professor Oak.

My heart skipped across my chest. The most legendary Pokémon Master and researcher in the field. Called me of all people into his office!?

He was, for all intents and purposes. A famous celebrity of Pokémon research. I needed to approach him cautiously and not embarrass myself in front of his intelligent ego.

"Come now, don't be shy girl. Shut the door behind you and come towards the middle of the room. Your Pokémon should be the one near the end of the table." Said Oak.

As I calmly shut the door behind me, the screech of the doors latch reverberated an echo. Looking around me, I noticed two bookshelf's on each end of the aisle.

This place looks like a massive library! The shelves each stacked above the second, or fourth story ceiling. There was a staircase near the end of the lab that winded toward the top of each floor behind him.

The man, I'd gather, seemed to be wearing a large white lab coat and had wrinkles across his face, showing little expression except a smirk. He certainly looked to be about my mothers age.

A loud bell rang from my other direction.
To my left, I noticed a tall grandfather clock that nested by one of the Assistant Researchers desks. The big hand pointing to twelve and the little hand ten. So it was ten-o'clock! Pheew! Good thing I wasn't late!

"And right on time too, what's your name?"

"L-l-leaf, uh, Leafgreen," I announced anxiously. "Though people call me Leaf for short."

"Well Leaf, I am glad to see that you are here, since you are one of the three that came in and picked up your Pokémon. I'm afraid that we only have one left at the moment." Said Oak.

"Uh, only one you say?" I inquired.

I made several strides towards the desk where Professor Oak resided. He never once made one gesture, except for that smirk the entire time I approached him.

He seemed like a kind and gentle soul though. Especially with his calming demeanor. No wonder he won the Pokémon League at such a young age. Even he felt confident in his own thoughts.

He certainly was a person that looked to espouse confidence in others, case in point his two lab Assistants on either side of the aisle. However, his response of 'us' three, left me a bit disappointed.

He only had three on the table for both of us. Unfortunately, I arrived too late to make a decisive pick. There was only one left for me to take.

"Who took the other two," I inquired.

"That would be my grandson Blue, and his new rival Red." Responded the Professor emphatically.

I curled my fist from that response.
