Chase had been having a rough day already before Anti made himself known. Work was stressful enough, filming for Bro Average and dealing with editing as well.
Then his phone was blown up by texts from Anti stating that Marvin and Jackieboy were getting on his nerves, and that he would snap their necks if they didn't leave him alone.
You got a blunt text from him around 3pm asking you to pick up the kids from school since it was his weekend, but he was busy dealing with the other Egos.
Of course, you didn't mind. Friday afternoons meant ice cream and movies, so you were happy to pick up Amelia and Gray.
They were just as excited to see you as you were to see them. They jumped for joy and Gray nearly bowled you over.
"Hey, you two! Your dad had to sort something out with Uncle Marvin so I'm here to chaperone you home."
They didn't seem all that concerned by their father's lack of appearance, instead piling into your car with you. You even put on the high school music CD you kept in your car for Amelia to sing along to.
Stopping on the way home, you grabbed a pint of cookie dough ice cream for the movie marathon tonight, and a couple of lollipops for the kids.
They were more than happy to eat them the rest of the way home, allowing blissful silence to fill the car.
Chase's car was in the driveway when you got home, and you parked next to it before getting the kids out and ushering them towards the front door.
"Alright, who can hug daddy the fastest?!" The two kids shot off in an instant, giggles following them as they ran towards the house with their adorably oversized backpacks bouncing along behind them.
You remembered to get the ice cream out of your car before heading inside, stashing it away in the freezer. You could hear the kids smothering their dad in the living room.
Making your way through the house, you leaned against the doorframe and watched the kids climb all over their dad. Chase was grinning from ear to ear, tickling Gray who squealed and kicked like a horse in response.
Amelia was a little more subdued, simply cuddling into Chase's side. It was a sweet sight nonetheless.
"Y/N!" Chase immediately called out for you once he spotted you lingering in the doorway. "What're you all the way over there for? Come get some love!"
Rolling your eyes at your boyfriend, you shook your head with a smile. "Maybe later, Chase. I've got stuff to do."
The smile on his face fell, and you heard him preoccupying the kids with some colouring books before his footsteps followed you into the kitchen.
Before you could get started on the small pile of dishes from the previous day, Chase's arms wrapped around your waist, and he pulled you gently back against his chest. His chin came to rest on your shoulder as he began to softly rock from side to side.
"Is everything okay, Y/N? You never pass up on some good lovin'. Not from the kids and especially not from me."
You leaned into him for a brief moment before reality hit you and you attempted to weasel your way out of his hold.
"I just don't want to take away from your family time, Chase. I know Stacy is their mom and it's not my place to get involved. You deserve to spend every minute you can with them."
Before you could escape from his arms, Chase cuddled closer to you and exhaled softly, his warm breath fanning against the nape of your neck.
"Baby..." Just hearing the pet name had you melting already. "Stacy might be their biological mom, but no one on earth treats them like you do. And I love spending time alone with my kids but with you there, it's even more special."
Chase let you go long enough for you to turn around, but it didn't take him long to hold you against his chest instead. He was gazing at you with that pouty look of his, like he missed a trick shot.
Humming to yourself, you brushed the dirt off his shoulder from Gray climbing on him. Chase leaned in closer, pouting even more dramatically.
"Please, Y/N. You won't replace Stacy, I promise. But the kids love you, and I miss getting to spend time with you as well as the kids."
You could never stay opposed to Chase when he had that cute look on his face. He was practically begging you to spend time with him and the kids after all.
"Fine. Get the kids to pick out some movies, and I'll get started on dinner."
Chase grinned, giving you a light squeeze before he ran towards the living room. He almost skidded on the tile when he stopped abruptly, however.
You watched him in confusion as he did a full 180, running back to you. Without any warning, he grabbed you again and kissed you hard.
"You know I love you, right?" Chase stared at you until you nodded, smiling at him.
"Of course I do, you dork. We've been dating for ages. Now go pick some movies!" You ushered him out of the kitchen so you could start cooking.
It didn't take long for laughter to float from the living room as Chase played with Amelia and Gray. In spite of the divorce, Chase was still the most loving man you knew.
