You hadn't expected to find anyone down here. After splitting off from the group in search of Josh, something in the trees had tried to attack you. Your solace came in the form of unstable ground, where the roof of an old tunnel collapsed in, sending you underground.

You wandered through the tunnel for at least an hour, terrified out of your mind. Sometimes you swore you could hear voices in the darkness, sounding eerily similar to that of your friends.

On the brink of hypothermia, dressed only in your pyjamas, you stumbled through the darkness until the sound of approaching footsteps overtook your own.

No. No, that can't be real.

So many sounds in these tunnels had been fake. Ashley calling for help. An owl's hoot echoing against the brick walls. Someone crying in the distance.

You hadn't been able to pinpoint a single one. Each one you followed only led you further into the darkness.

The footsteps came ever closer, and eventually, you saw light. It was faint but nonetheless very real. You almost thought it was a mirage, but clearly, the brain wasn't that cruel.

"C'mon boy, shouldn't be that far of a walk back to the Sanatorium."

The voice that bounced off the walls was oddly familiar. This time you chased it with vigour, stumbling on uneven ground in your haste.

Soon enough you rounded the far curve of the tunnel, and were met with a growling animal, heckles raised as it bared its sharp canines.

The person standing beside it hurriedly placed a hand on the defensive animal's head. "Hey, Hey- Holy shit, Y/N!"

The voice you had recognised was indeed that of your best friend, Mike. There was a dim light pouring in through a hole in the ceiling of the tunnel, allowing you to see his worried expression.

The animal sat down next to him, and after another brief glance down at it, you realised it was a white wolf. Mike was shrugging off his jacket in a matter of seconds, putting it on you even when you protested weakly.

"I'm not having you die of hypothermia on this godforsaken mountain, Y/N. You're coming with me and we're getting the hell out of here."

He let you lean on him for a moment, catching your breath. In one of his hands, he held an old looking shotgun, and with his other, he held you close.

His breath was warm against your hair. "I thought I'd lost you. You've been missing for hours."

The ghost of a smile tugged at your cold lips and you found yourself barely able to speak. It was like your head could no longer produce a coherent thought. The only thing on your mind was the cold biting at your bones.

"Still alive." You managed to mumble, and Mike's chest rumbled with an amused chuckle.

"Yeah, for now at least. Let's get out of here." With Mike and his wolf leading the way, you stumbled alongside him, glad to be regaining some body heat. And glad to be back with your best friend.
