You'd known the Smith family for quite some time. Their youngest kid, Morty, struggled in some areas at school due to some form of dyslexia and probably undiagnosed ADHD.
Since he first started high school, you'd been a tutor for him. In your final year of college yourself, you were well equipped to help him when you weren't doing assignments yourself.
Usually, you would tutor Morty three or four times a week, and it wasn't unusual for you to stay for dinner. Heck, sometimes Morty would walk the couple blocks to your apartment to study if things were a bit hectic at home. As such, you'd grown quite fond of him, and his sister Summer, who clicked with you almost instantly.
Things got a little... wonky, when Beth's father returned from a long break away somewhere, moving in with them.
He was rude, obnoxious, and a drunk. But he was also one hell of a scientist. Your tutoring sessions with Morty became few and far between, as his grandfather took up more and more of his time.
You'd heard about their adventures in outer space from Summer, who near constantly texted you.
You were happy that Morty was connecting with his previously distant grandfather, but you had to admit, his grades were starting to slip and you could see the effects these adventures were having on him.
He came over to your apartment not two days ago for a tutoring session and ended up falling asleep on your couch barely half an hour in.
You'd let the poor thing rest for the evening before waking him up and dropping him home. Beth had thanked you, apologising for Morty's inconsistent appearances.
And now, you were invited to a Friday night dinner. Just so Beth and Jerry could make it up to you, even though you'd attempted to refuse since you were happy to help Morty.
Making sure to look decent, you checked your somewhat cool appearance in the mirror before heading out, driving to the Smith's house. This dinner had given you the chance to finally break out the leather jacket you bought a while ago and wore once.
You made sure to knock on the front door after you arrived, parking beside Jerry's car. The door swung open not ten seconds later, Morty standing in the doorway.
"Y/N! It's good to see you!"
Smiling at the sight of him, you leaned down to give Morty a quick hug.
"It's good to see you too Morty. I hope you've been sleeping better at the moment!"
The preteen sheepishly smiles and scratches the back of his neck, clearly still embarrassed that he fell asleep on your couch.
"Yeah, I have. I'm still sorry about that," Morty mumbles, nervously laughing.
Before you could respond, someone stumbled into the hallway, a loud burp following them.
