Surface Tension
So Gordon's decided he's making it to the Lambda Complex, he's decided that, no matter what, he's gonna make it. So, of course, the world has to say "oh, are you sure about that?" It's sort of like a boss gauntlet before the end type chapter- over the course of "Surface Tension," you must take out 3 helicopters (one of which is a troop carrier), 2 ichthyosaurs, 3 tanks, and another chase with an angry Mr. Flamethrower Hands.
"Surface Tension" is also really good at reminding you, repeatedly, that there's stuff going on all around you, all throughout the facility, not just right in front of you. As soon as you make it outside, you can almost constantly hear distant explosions and gunfire, you overhear a lot of military radio conversations regarding their attempts at combating the aliens, and you stumble across a lot of battles already in progress between the military and the aliens. "Surface Tension is where it stops being just Freeman's trek across the facility and starts being an all out war.
You actually come across the first helicopter pretty quickly- almost immediately as you try to cross a dam!

I don't really use the tau cannon a whole lot, its regular shot just doesn't seem that powerful, and its charge shot takes too long to charge. But as of right now, it's the only thing we have to take out the helicopter, so land three good charge shots,
