Okay, so everyone knows about the FUN value, right? The number in the game code that's randomly decided upon each reset, which then has a chance to trigger several random scenarios, such as the "wrong number song" phone call, Alphys accidentally calling you to order pizza, any of the grey NPC encounters, or the Gaster/grey room encounter.

But here's the thing. Everything in the game has dual meanings. LOVE? Level of Violence. EXP? Execution Points. HP? Hope.

So why shouldn't Fun stand for something, like, oh, I dunno, "Fundamentally Unreal Nuances"?

Let me explain.

Nuances for N, since, y'know, they're all just small details that don't really change the story.

But what about the "Fundamentally Unreal"?

Well, consider this. Every time you reset the game, most of the game code is already there, it just has to be executed. But the FUN value is randomly reselected every reset.

And I headcanon that Gaster does have access to the game code, he just has a hard time changing it... but what if it was already being changed, and he just tweaked it?

So he, a nonexistent, unreal being, is altering the game code to produce results that, while in the long run are totally meaningless small details, are technically, fundamentally impossible- unreal.

Except it's such a short span of time that he has to alter it, that he can't really take the time to think through it. So sometimes, he gets it wrong (the phone calls), sometimes he gets it almost right (the grey NPCs), and sometimes he almost even succeeds (grey door). But most of the time he just totally fails, resulting in none of the above.

So to put it shortly, Gaster can change the Fundamentally Unreal Nuances value every reset in an attempt to get himself back into the game.
