Oh Flip

I'll be talking a lot about Of Mice and Men over the next few chapters, so spoiler warnings. After getting over the horrific ending it's a really interesting book with lots of good themes.

I was watching a GCSE Pod on Of Mice and Men. I'll have to explain GCSE pod in a later chapter, it's pretty cool. Anyway, it was talking about important quotes for chapter 1 and basically explaining about the link with Lennie and animals. Lennie likes soft things like mice, but doesn't know his own strength. He accidently kills mice he pets. Then the pod just says this:

Lennie's strength brings death.

Now of that I've finished the book, Oh. Flip. My English teacher has said almost every lesson over the past two weeks 'Lennie doesn't know his own strength'. We were getting annoyed and we always said 'we know'. I can just imagine his smug face once other people reach the end and him reminding us about what he constantly said in chapter 1.

Foreshadowing that you don't even realise was foreshadowing is the best, even if it does hint at a very, very dark ending.
