Maddie's P.O.V.
I feel like Chris is mad at me.
We hardly talk anymore. We used to be the bestest of friends and now, she won't give me the time of day.
At lunch, Ally always invites me to go sit with her and her friends before I'm able to see Chris.
But before she's able to dodge me and keep walking, I step in front of her. When she tries to move, I stop her from doing so.
She groans. “What do you want?”
“For you to talk to me,” I answer.
“Please, you've been ignoring me for weeks.”
She crosses her arms. “I see that you've got new friends and forgot all about us.”
Julian.
Aww, man, I haven't been talking to him either.
“Look, I'm sorry--”
“I don't want to hear it. Besides, apologize to Julian. He's the one who misses you the most.”
“You see, my friend--”
“That's why you abandoned us. Is you new 'friend' better than me? What happened to us? Our friendship?” she frowned.
I would've answered but I was shoved as she angrily walked away.
I need to talk to Ally.

“Maddie! Just the person I was looking for! Okay, so--”
“Ally,” I start, cutting her off. “Although you're nice enough to invite me, I don't want to go.”
She stares at me, confused. “You didn't want to come to my birthday party?”
Geez. Now I felt bad.
“I'm sorry--”
“Just--never mind. Forget I ever invited you. Don't bother coming.” We were at lunch, in line actually, and she conveniently received her food and walked away from me.
I really hope that I don't lose all of my friends.

Jen's P.O.V.
“I don't think I'm going to be able to make it today,” I say, coughing. I would've continued to speak, but I felt something coming up, so I rushed to the bathroom.
I've been sick for the past two days.
I was calling the director to tell him that I'm in no good condition to film today and sure enough, he understood.
“I hope you feel better soon,” is what he told me after I explained the situation to him.
I lay back in my bed. Everything I've eaten finds its way back up again. It's horrible, being this sick.
When I went to the clinic, the nurse had told me that I had symptoms of the flu, and that I shouldn't work for a few days. I was sent home with medicine and a doctor's note excusing me from work.
I took some of the medicine I was given but it'll be a while before it comes into effect.
I blow my nose into some tissue yet again.
Did I mention that I was bored out of my mind?
I had called my mother earlier and told her what was happening and she almost wanted to fly over from California.
“You can't do that! Stay over there, I should get better soon,” I assure her.
“All right, you call me if you need anything. Anything at all, okay?” she paused. “Just got in the car now, about to pick up Maddie from
school.”
“How is she doing anyway?” I ask.
I hear my mother sigh. “Not so
good.”
My heart was racing. What could be wrong with my baby girl? I don't care how old she is, she'll always be my baby girl.
“She hasn't been eating. I try to make dinner taste good, and Gary enjoys it, but she always comes up with an excuse not to eat. I'm starting to get worried about her.”
“I can be there by tomorrow,” I tell my mother.
“Aren't you supposed to be finished in May? You can't cause trouble, Jennifer. Besides, you're sick with the flu! Just stay there, April is ending and May will be here before you know it.”
“Okay,” I say, unsure of myself.
“Wait a sec, Maddie's about to get into the car. Hold on.”
In the background, I hear Maddie say, “Who's that?”
“No one dear,” my mother tells her.
“Do you want to talk to her?” she asks me.
“Please.”
A few moments pass by and that's when I hear Maddie say, “Hi.”
“How are you?” A series of coughs strikes me again.
“Woah, are you okay? Are you sick or something? You sound pretty
bad.” It was nice hearing her voice again. We've mostly been texting.
“Yeah, but don't worry about it.” I debate in my mind whether or not to confront her about her eating habits. Or should I say, her not eating habits.
I decide to talk about it later, and enjoy our conversation.
“I hope you're doing okay, I should be back in May.” I say.
“All right. Um, Karen wants to talk to you. See you soon, love you.”
Moments later I am greeted by my mother.
“Got to go, I'll talk to you later!” she said happily.
When the call ends, I lay back down again and stare at the ceiling.
I couldn't stop worrying about her. The whole evening, that's what I've been doing. Worrying. And coughing and blowing my nose and spitting up stuff.
Although I usually obey my mother's rules, this time, I won't.
I need to fly back to California.
