Crystal's P.O.V.
“I never thought I'd ever find happiness here.” I admit to Logan one night.
“Neither did I.” he replies.
We lay, side by side. Kayleigh is snoring on her bed and we have to keep quiet.
It's crazy, an aggressive boy and a schizophrenic girl, maybe, just maybe, might fall for each other. It seems like a dream. Reminds me of this book I read not too long ago, “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. Except, we have some sort of mental illness, but this time there might be a happy ending.
It's March 1st, it's my birthday and today I'm finally leaving this place. I'll have to admit, I'm going to miss it, but only just a little bit. I've met some good friends here, too. Not Kayleigh though, I won't miss her.
There's a knock on the door. I already know it's Miss Sadie.
I whisper, “Hide!” to Logan and he crawls underneath the bed. I use my only blanket to cover the area so no one can see him.
“Breakfast is in thirty minutes.” she says. “Hey, why is your blankets on the floor? They were just washed!”
My heart was racing. “Uh, I. . .” I struggled to find words, then came up with a lie. “They fell? No wonder I was freezing last night!”
She rolled her eyes and seemed unconvinced, but went along with it anyway. She closed the door and I checked underneath my bed.
“Is she gone?” he whispered.
“Yeah,” I reply. I help him up and just look at him.
He's seventeen. His brown eyes stare at me in wonder.
“Why are you staring at me?” he asks.
“I don't know. . .you make it really hard not to.” I smile.
Kayleigh shifts from her position. She went from laying on her back to her side. Her back was facing us.
“Maybe you should go.” I suggest.
“Yeah.” he hugged me then snuck out of the room. I frown a little because he forgot that today's my birthday, and I've only been reminding him for two weeks.
I lay on my uncomfortable bed and take a look at my surroundings. I won't miss this place, but I won't forget it either.
At breakfast, I get Cheerios again, and Logan sits next to me today. Miss Sadie is nearby, but she's keeping an eye on other people.
“You make sure she eats,” Miss Sadie told Logan as she walked away.
“I will.” he replied back and is really sticking to his word.
He looks at me with kind eyes, encouraging me to eat, although it isn't that easy.
“I'll be leaving here soon. Next week and I'm out of here.” Logan says while chowing down on a breakfast sandwich.
“I'm leaving today.” I take a tiny bite and swallow, forcing it to stay down.
He frowns. “Can you stay longer?”
“I gotta leave. I want fresh air. For about two months I've been here, just waiting to go home. I can't believe I'm saying this. . . But I miss school. I miss my friends. I miss being bad.”
“You've told me about some of the bad things you've done.” he chuckles a bit. “You're one fiesty girl.”
He looks at my barely touched bowl. “Eat.”
