Maddie's P.O.V.

Three weeks went by, and school has been going okay for me. They've been assigning lots of homework to me, though. Jerks.

Chris hasn't shown up either. I've been getting really worried about her. I tried calling but she never answered. Tried texting, but I never got a response.

Jen will be home soon, she told me.

After school, I texted Karen saying that I'm going to Chris's house, and to not pick me up.

The bus dropped me off at her neighborhood complex.

It took me a few minutes to finally make it to her house.

Chelsea answered with I had rung the doorbell.

“Hey! What are you doing here?” she sounded surprised.

“Looking for Chris.”

“Um. . . She's not here.” she replied.

“Then where is she?” I ask, concerned.

“She's getting the help that she needs. Rehab. She'll be there for about two months.”

“Rehab? What happened to her?” I take off my backpack and put it on the floor next to me.

“She tried to. . .” It seemed like she had a hard time saying this. “She tried to commit suicide. I--I don't know what's going on in her head, but she tried. Luckily, I came in her room right before she did it.” She became teary-eyed.

“What?” I am a little shocked, but then I remember what I saw last week.

“She'll be back in school by March.”

“Can you at least tell her that I came? I've been trying to call her and she never answered.”

“Took her phone away.” Chelsea says. “I don't think she'll have it for a while. . . Need me to take you home again?”

“I told Karen I'd be here,” I say.

“You might be bored here.”

“Okay. . . take me home.” I pick up my backpack and sling it over my shoulder.

“Hold on, let me just get my keys.” she closes the door.

“I thought you were going to your friend's house.” Karen says as I walk through the door.

“She wasn't home.” I frown.

“Was she at school?”

“No. . . She's gonna be gone for a while.”

“Is she okay?”

I kept thinking about Chris. I don't know what they'll do to her there. I began to cry.

“Why does bad things have to happen to good people?” I say, wiping my tears.

“Well, that's just how things are.” she gives me a hug. “How about you go to your room and do your homework, and I'll make us some dinner.”

“Okay.” I grab everything and walk upstairs.

I turn my computer on and a few minutes later I was receiving a video call.

It was Julian. He told me how to use Skype and even gave me his username, which was really silly, and I laughed, but he told me not to judge him.

Mine is @maddieandrews. Lawrence was taken, which made me a little mad, but I got over it quickly. His is @KingOfAwesome. I still laugh at him.
