Imagine you and Jace have been together for a few months and you have been getting better. Mentally and as a Shadowhunter. Your confidence is up and things couldn't be better until there a bump in the road. But you pull through stronger than ever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Y/N's POV It has been a few months since Jace rescued me from my father. And in that time I had been living in the Institute. I've also been training harder in the way of the Shadowhunter. And things with Jace couldn't be better. I was in the library of the Institute studying the runes when someone tried to sneak up on me. "Don't even try it Alec." I heard him stop. "How did you know it was me?" "Because your the only one who tries to scare or sneak up on me anumore." I said as a matter of factly. "She has a point. Plus she is an even better shadowhunter than I am." I heard Clary say from the door. I grinned at this. "That is true." He sat in the seat next to me. "You are advancing very well." "I'm not that good guys." Clary sat across from me. "Yes you are!" I gave her a look. "I'm serious!" "Whatever." "Jace!" We heard Isabelle scream from the hallway. We looked just I time to see Jace storm by the library door. We looked at each other confused an got up and went to the door. Isabelle ad it to rhe door at this point. "What going on?" Alec asked her. "The mission went south and Jace is pissed." "What happenes exactly?" Clary asked. "Our target got away because Jace got tricked by the target. He's pissed at himself." "I'll go talk to him." I said something finally. "I.dont know how much good it will do but go ahead." I headed toward his room. The door was closed but I could hear him inside. I knocked but no answer. I opened the door to see him shirtless and attacking his training dummy.

"Jace?" I asked loud enough for him to hear me. He stopped and turned to look at me. I could to see the anger in his expression. "Not now Y/N." He turned back to the dummy. I walked into the room and shut the door behind me without taking my eyes off of him. "Jace. It wasn't your fault. Everybody has rough days." I tries to comfort him as I walked closer to him. He stopped but didn't look at me. "You don't have to be upset about something small." I placed my hand on his back. As soon as I touched his skin he jerked away for me. "You don't understand." He said sternly. "Then explain it to me so I can understand." I said calmly. "You wouldn't understand even then. You want to know why?" By this time he was looking at me intently. "Because you weren't raised like me! The way of the Shadowhunter is a complex system. You can't make small mistakes!" He basically screamed.

"Being a shadowhunter is really that complex?" I was starting to get irritated. "Yes! And you want to know why you don't see that?! It's because you will never be a shadowhunter!" I gasped under my breath. "Is being a shadowhunter mean that much to you?" I asked quietly. "Yes." He said loudly and turning his back on me. "Is it more important than me?" I asked scares of the answer. "Yes." He said quickly then froze. He turned around slowly to see me looking straight at him with teary eyes. "Y/N..." He tried to talk with regret lace through his voice and face. "If being a shadowhunter means that much to forget me. And if being a shadowhunter is that complex I don't think I want to be one because I don't need anymore complexity in my life." I turned and walked to the door. There were a few footsteps but they stopped when I turned toward him again. I could see pain in his eyes. "Goodbye Jace." I walked out and slammed the door. I took off running because I knew he would chase after me. I got to my room shut the door and locked it. I heard running come up to the door and then knocking. "Y/N! Please! Open the door!" Jace said through the door. "Just go away Jace! You made your position clear." "Y/N." His voice way so small and soft it made me cry harder. I then I started crying even harder when I remembered the pain in his eyes because that's something that I've never seen before. I slid down the wall opposite of the now quiet door and just cried. *Short time skip* I was still sitting against the wall about 30 minutes later. Everything was quiet when there was a soft knock at the door. "Y/N...I know what I said was way out of line. I'm just not used to messing up. And I'm afraid that I might mess up on a mission and you'll be there and get hurt." He paused. "I couldn't live with myself if you got hurt because of me. I love you too much to lose you." I gasped because he had never said that to me. I got up and walked to the door and opened it a crack. I saw Jace sitting on the floor against the doorframe. He looked up at me and I saw tears his eyes. I opened the door all the way and knelt in front of him. "I would never blame you if I got hurt. Or anyone got hurt." I scooted forward in between his knees. He grabbed my hands. "I was used to be treated like nothing. Like I don't exist or matter. You changed that." I took one of my hands and put it on his face. "I love you Jace. No matter what." "I'm so sorry." He put his hand on top of mine. "I am too." "I love you Y/N. Forever and always." "I'm love you too Jace. Forever and always." I took back his hand and pulled him up. I kissed him.

"Forever and always." I whispered again. I pulled him into my room and over to the bed after you shut the door. We both laid down and then Jace said something. "I'll always protect you. Even with my life."
