Hi Nursing freshies! First of all, congratulations for making it to UST Nursing - one of the best Nursing schools in the country. We're well-known even in other countries so we can say that you made the right choice.
Here are some tips that might help you in your freshman year in the college.
1. UST-CoN is a Center of Excellence. So in order to maintain its reputation, meron tayong CUT-OFF. You have to obtain a GWA of 2.0 (or higher, para sure pass) in order to be admitted to the second year. So yun, you're on probation palang during your first two semesters. SO WHAT DO YOU DO? STUDY LESS BUT STUDY BETTER. Nursing tayo so marami rami yung mga aaralin natin. I suggest that you study your lessons pag-uwi mo from class para it won't be super hard trying to recall important points during Monthlys, Prelims and Finals. Make it a habit. Super hirap magcram, and if you're sleep deprived, it will be harder to focus. Speaking from experience, all-nighters aren't that effective.
2. Nurses are punctual. Sa real world 'di pwede yung late. So sa college, even if you're first year palang, you're being trained na. PLEASE AVOID BEING LATE OR MAGING ABSENT. Remember nung high school when people told you that in college, professors won't care if you come late to class or don't attend at all. In Nursing, PROFS ARE SUPER CONSCIOUS ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS. There are consequences so yeah.
3. Now, we have minor subjects like Theology, English, Filipino and Psych. I suggest you participate actively in class and study well. I-UNO niyo na 'to because our majors are super hard. This is your panghatak. Don't take these subjects lightly though because there are times na eto yung cause ng downfall ng iba.
4. NOW, MOVING ON TO THE MAJORS.
a. You'll have Chemistry (inorganic and organic combined) sa first sem and then Biochemistry sa second sem. I suggest na now palang you review your HS Chemistry para you won't have a lot of difficulty in understanding the first few lessons. Also, you'll have Labcons na dapat niyo pag-aralan talaga. You're lucky if your prof is Ma'am Saludares because she's super magaling in teaching Chemistry to the point na maiincorporate mo lahat na teachings niya in real life <3
b. Of course, you'll be having 2 Nursing Majors. Super dami ng mga aaralin mo dito so masasanay ka rin HUHU. #Nursingplease
c. For many, the hardest major is Anaphy (Anatomy and Physiology). You'll study all of the parts and functions of the body....... all day all night....... (Quiz palagi eh). Goodluck freshies. I hope that by the end of the school year, may onting sanity parin kayo :(
5. Don't be afraid to join orgs. 'Di porket may cut-off, meaning na puro study ka nalang.
6. MAKE FRIENDS. EVEN FROM OTHER SECTIONS KASI YOU'LL NEED ALL OF THE RESOURCES YOU HAVE. Profs usually team up to make the ultimate weapon.. I MEAN TESTS. So para you'll know stuff na 'di naturo sainyo, ask for notes from your friends from other sections!!
7. Enjoy your free time while you still can. Keep in mind that if you pass the cut-off, meron kang summer term during your freshman and sophomore year so BASICALLY YOU DON'T HAVE SUMMER FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS SO ISULIT MO NA YUNG SUPER LONG VACATION NIYO RIGHT NOW. First term is medyo maluwag pa and then second term talagang super super hectic so yun :) :) :) :) :) :) magpakasaya ka while you still can :) :) :) nursing isnt easy talaga. You can ask our upper class men pa
