Audio: Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do.
Justin's POV
The gate buzzed and I heard a door slam in the distance. I'd been in here for almost 12 hours and I was starting to lose my mind. I slammed my fist into the cold brick wall in frustration before yelling out in pain.
"Fuck." I cursed as I sat back down on the bench, kicking the cold plate of stale bread that was supposedly dinner.
Holding my head in my hands, I cursed myself out for the hundredth time this morning. I had only wanted to forget. I wanted to forget everything. It wasn't permanent but for that moment I wanted to forget all the bullshit that was going on in my life - in my head.
It's not the first time I'd done it. But the moment my life was spiralling downwards, was the moment I got locked up without a second thought. With the way I was going, I knew there were only two ways that I could end up - dead or in prison. At this point, the latter was the most likely.
I don't know why I called him, but I did. I couldn't even stand to see his face after how he'd lashed out at me because I ended my relationship with his daughter. I knew he wanted the best for her but what was best for her wasn't necessarily what was best for me.
Suddenly, keys twisted in the lock and the door of the cell opened.
"Carter, your time is up," the police officer spoke, his voice filled with distaste.
I looked up at him before standing up and walking towards the door. "Looks like I'm not going to rot in jail any time soon." I smirked.
After how violently I'd been treated last night, I was glad to see the back of this place.
"You're lucky that your dad is friends with the Chief Police officer. All your charges got dropped," he said, throwing the handcuffs on my wrist with more force than necessary.
"I don't have a dad," I snapped, "he's my ex-girlfriend's dad."
"Just shut it. If I had anything to do with it, you'd be going to court next week."
"Well, you don't," I sang.
He slammed the cell door causing a loud bang to echo down the hallway. He slapped me upside the head before pushing me into the reception where Rob was filling out a ton of paper work.
I was too exhausted to even kick up a fight. I'd done enough damage last night.
"Thank you so much, Brad." Rob signed the paperwork before handing over the clipboard to the police officer at reception.
"Don't sweat it, Rob. I owed you one anyway." Chief Peterson chuckled, holding his police hat under his arm.
"You don't know how much this means," Rob said, his eyes were strained as if he was under copious amounts of stress.
"We all screw up sometimes," Chief Peterson replied before he eyed me. "Don't let it happen again, kid." His voice was stern.
"Yes, Sir." I nodded before I looked down at my shoes.
A petite female officer with a hardened facial expression unlocked my handcuffs.
"I've got to run now, but I'll call you later to arrange dinner with Viv and Claire," Chief Peterson said as he headed out of the police station.
"Sure! Take care of yourself, Brad." Rob smiled gratefully.
Rob didn't speak again yet I could feel his intense stare burning holes into my head. I couldn't bring myself to look him in the eyes. I knew what was coming.
