You were walking down the aisles of your local grocery store, picking out Liam's favorite food items. Later on that day you would be preparing a huge feast for his arrival home from Afghanistan. You were so excited for him to be coning home. Liam had been deployed overseas for 14 months. That was a pretty long time, a whole year. Some days you found it hard to get up with him not being there with you. You were always worried about if he would get killed, kidnapped, etc. Liam was a sniper, he would always tell you about how he had to always make tough decisions and it was taking a toll on him. You could see he was having a hard time through your Skype sessions, that were only 10 minutes, 3 nights a week.
Once you were done shopping you walked to the line for checkout.
"Having a party?" The cashier asked with a smile as she rang your items. You smile nodding.
"My husband is coming back from war." You told her, handing her your card to pay.
"That's nice, have a nice day." She handed you your bags. You took them from her and walked out the grocery store. When you got home you placed the bags on the counter. You took the items out of the bag and started the pre-prep work for the meal. You started humming to yourself when your Skype ringtone started going off. You walked over to your laptop to see an incoming call from Liam. You pressed accept, smiling when his face came on the screen. "Hey baby." You waved leaning on the counter.
"Hey beautiful." Liam waved back, leaning up closer to the screen since it was dark on his side. "Listen, I have some bad news..." He trailed. "We have to stay here for another two weeks. We just got another mission that we have to complete before we can come home." He explained. This caused you to frown in disappointment. You had this amazing dinner party planned, but now it would have to be canceled. "I'm really sorry baby. I promise to make it up to you though." He said genuinely apologetic. You let out a sigh and stood up straighter.
"Its okay, you're just doing your job. Just be safe out there, okay?" He nods and blows you a kiss.
"I got to go, but I love you beautiful."
You blew him a kiss back and told him you loved him. You watched him get up from the seat and then the screen turned off. You turned around to see the food you just bought all over the counter. Annoyed you started packing away all the food into the fridge. So much for a welcome home dinner. You walked to the living room and plopped down on the couch frustrated. You grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.
*the bell rings*
You get up and walk to the front door. There standing in front of you was Liam's two sisters. "What are you guys doing here?" You asked letting them in after you hugged each one.
"Well Liam called us and told us he wouldn't be coming home after all today, so we thought we would take you out to dinner." You shook your head at her.
"No, you guys don't have to." You protested. "We want to." Both of his sisters smiled at you and ushered you to go get ready.
"Thank you for doing this guys." You told them as the three of you guys walked down a boardwalk. The baordwalk in town had all the best restaurants and you guys were going to eat at one of them.
"We wanted to treat you."
You smiled in gratitude and kept on walking. As you were walling you felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around,
"Can I help- Liam?!" You exclaimed in shock. He smiled wrapping his arms around you as you sobbed into his cheat. "How are you here?" You cried in disbelief. You kept searching his face to make sure this wasn't a dream. Liam cupped your face, stroking your cheek.
"I wanted to surprise you." He said brushing his lips against yours. "My sisters were in on it the entire time." He chuckled kissing you softly. You hit his arms playfully.
"You're a jerk." You smiled embracing him again. It felt so good to have him in your arms again.
