The New Serpent Leader

El's Pov:

"We have gathered here today to claim our new serpent leader!" My dad screamed out over the crowd.

I gulped as I peaked out from behind the stage over the sea of serpents. When I turned back around I was met by the calming eyes of Jughead. He smiled and so did I.

"How are you feeling friend?" He asked calmly as he kept his hands in his pockets.

"Nervous but excited!" I stated a bit too confident.

My brother raised his eyebrows and replied playfully.

"Really? You don't seem that nervous?" He smiled again. I had been pacing around behind the stage for 20 minutes breathing heavily as I went, it was pretty obvious that I was really nervous.

Suddenly I heard my dad call both my and my brother's names. I clenched my fists but Jug grabbed my left hand and held it in his own as we walked up the same stairs I had walked up the same day that I had been embarrassed in front of the whole gang but it was also the day that I had fallen in love. I thought of Sweet Pea's face as I went up those stairs but his face stayed in my head all through my dad's speech.

When he was finally done he asked one question before looking at us both.

"Who will be the next serpent leader?"

I once again gulped and looked over at Jughead who also looked nervous.

Just as I thought it was all gonna be over and he was gonna call up Jughead's and my name and everyone would scream and shout I saw him, in the middle of the crowd he was. He stood like an literal angel amongst a sea of demons and god was he beautiful.

"Sweet Pea..." I whispered as my dad uttered the sentence.

"The leader of the south side serpents will be my first born daughter Elise Grace Jones"

I had barely heard him, I was too focused on staring at Sweet Pea's smirk to think of anything else. When the reality hit me and I realized I had been crowned the leader I looked up at my dad who was still smiling.

"Wait? Me?" I asked before I smiled.

"Yes honey" dad said as he waved for me to come over to the mic.

I walked over and my dad looked at me, I realized his look meant that he wanted me to say something to the people, my people.

"So...." I started. I had lost Sweet Pea and couldn't see him anymore.

"I guess I'm..." I stuttered as I started to think, what if he wasn't actually here what if I just imagined him.

"I've lost so much this year, I lost friends and family both to death and to the power of greed. But most importantly I gained something too."

I stopped before I looked over at Jughead, he looked confused since our dad said we would both be the leader but he soon smiled and nodded for me to keep going.

"I gained strength, confidence and motivation. I made new friends, I accepted myself for who I am but I also met someone, someone who makes my stomach twist and turn. My heart skip beats but he also makes me so so incredibly happy. I lost him too, because people can't stand other people's happiness"

I felt the tears come up but this time I didn't stop them, I let them run down my face as I kept going.

"I found my soulmate and he was ripped away from me, I don't even know if he's alive to be honest. The only thing I know for sure is that I love him and I will make sure to be the god damn best leader you've ever had! "

The crowd looked happy with my speech and they clapped their hands fast and loudly. I smiled and waved but suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around smiling and met the eyes of him. Sweet Pea's eyes.

"Hey" He said shortly. I couldn't believe it.

"Hi...." I replied as I my voice broke. I felt my whole body fill with happiness.

I cried as I threw myself into his arms. He hugged me tightly. I felt his lips press against my forehead and I could also hear his sniffles.

"I love you so much" He said into my hair.

He let me go and I stared up into his eyes.

"I love you too baby" I then pressed my lips onto his. This kiss felt better than any other kiss I had ever felt before.

"You're the leader baby" he said as he parted.

That's when I knew what I had to do. If I was gonna lead this gang I needed someone by my side. I stepped to the front again and started to speak into the crowd.

"Listen up fellow serpents, I have come to the conclusion that there will not be one leader no, there will be two, I will share the spot as leader with my one true love, Sweet Pea"

He looked at me and smiled before looking out at the crowd. They were screaming from joy. We had not one but two leaders. Sweet Pea smiled and I for the first time in so long felt safe, I was safe with him.

I was the Serpent Queen and he, he was my king.
