Chapter 35: I Promise

3rd Person Pov:
A Red Wolf stood face to face with a jackal. A jackal who changed life by making it into a war zone. The Jackal looked at how the members of the Resistance fought. He noticed how the members would fall in pain but, get back up again. He noticed how each member devoted themselves to win this raging war. The Jackal looked back at the Red Wolf. "Gadget, I really can't do this." The Jackal said, he sounded so sad and guilty. "But, Ira! We need to do this. We have to make this fight as real as possible." Gadget explained, the Red Wolf felt extremely for making his own lover do this. Ira or Infinite (as the Resistance know him as) sighed and nodded to continue the fight.

While they started fighting, a Blue Hedgehog noticed Gadget having a difficult time fighting Infinite. Ira himself didn't know why Gadget was losing until he noticed that his lover was purposely missing each hit and kick towards him. He noticed Gadget purposely taking each hit to his body which made Ira scared and nervous. He didn't want to hurt the Red Wolf that much! Sonic saw his Rookie failing at the fight and began to worry for his friend. "Come on, Rookie! You can do this!" Sonic exclaimed as he fought off the clones of Metal Sonic. Gadget looked at him and gave him a smile while nodding, he got back up and fought. Until his body was too weak from the pain inflicted on him and fell to his knees. "HEY ROOKIE! ARE YOU OKAY?!" Sonic exclaimed, worry could clearly be heard in his voice.

Gadget panted from the fighting and was about to get up until he saw a hand in front of his face. He looked to see that Ira was helping him get up. "You are my boyfriend and not a day goes when I don't think about the pain I caused you from the beginning. I am your protector and lover. I want to forgive myself for what I did but, I can only do that if you forgive me. Which is why, I promise to protect you, defend you, and never make you cry. I don't want to see you doubt me, not trust me, or be anxious to tell me something. I want you to feel safe when you are around me." Ira explained as he looked into Gadget's eyes. Gadget started tearing up from his boyfriend's promise and smiled. "What did I do to deserve you?" Gadget asked, the two lovebirds were so concentrated on each other that they didn't notice the yelling from the members of the Resistance.

"DON'T DO IT! HE'S TRYING TO TRICK YOU!" Tails yelled out as he tried to get a clone of Zavok off of him. The members were too late as Gadget grabbed his Infinite's hand and got up. Infinite smiled behind his mask and pulled Rookie a little bit closer. "You came back to me." Infinite responded and before he or Rookie knew it. They fused together to make Perfect Infinity, a fusion that was not created for destruction or rage. But, rather a fusion created to symbolize love and protection. As Sonic and his Classic self fought in their super form, Gadget and Ira fought back as to not be separated from each other again. Their attempt failed however and they un-fused, Infinite ran from the battlefield. Leaving a confused but, heartbroken Rookie behind. "Why did you leave me?" Rookie mumbled and soon, his members came to his aid. Infinite ran and ran far away from his lover not because of humiliation.

But, to make sure he won't hurt the one he loves the most again.
