Chapter 28: A Breather

Ira's/Infinite's Pov:
The plans to go to Perfect Infinity's base were foiled as soon as Amy woke up followed by Tails. Gears suggested it would be best to hold off the plan until everyone was healed and suited. "Maybe...later. I have a few patients to take care of." Gears said as he was mid-way up the stairs. "It's fine, I kinda wanted to relax anyway. Take the time you need." I replied, he smiled and went upstairs as I sat outside. I inhaled and let out a sigh as I looked around me.

The whole place looked exactly the same as the first war. The air had a strong smell of metal, dust was in the horizon, and nearby buildings were crumbled. Not to mention that it was a dead slient since every citizen ran for shelter and safety. Is this how bad I made things to be? Were these the results I gained when I was still 'Infinite'? What reason did I even have to do anything of this? Right, Shadow called me 'weak' and I snapped from that moment on. I snapped twice during the beginnings of the war. The first time being when Shadow basically killed my squad.

Why did Shadow do all of that again? I don't understand his reasoning but, then again I don't understand my own reasoning to start a war. "Why am I thinking so deeply?" I ask myself as I step inside. "Hey Ira, what are you doing?" A voice in front of me asked, I faced towards the voice to see Shadow. "Just kinda stepped inside after a few minutes of thinking. Why are you down here? Thought you were resting or helping the others." I asked, I walked towards the kitchen with him following me.

"Gears asked me to get something to eat or at least drink for them." Shadow stated, moving away the few rocks around the kitchen. "I wish you good luck, finding food under this mess might be difficult." I joked, helping him move the rocks. The fridge was tipped over and so, we put it back into it's spot. Shadow opened the fridge to grab two bags of apples and carrots. "Grab a few water bottles to." He said, carrying the two separate bags as I grabbed about 5 bottles. We went upstairs and handed out the refreshments. Gears was grateful for it and continued to help the others heal.

"Hey Shad?" I asked while sipping my water bottle. "What is it?" He replied, crunching on the carrot he had. "Why did you kill mg squad?" I asked, he stopped eating the carrot and froze. Oh no, did I make him uncomfortable? Is this something he isn't allowed to talk about? "That is something, I don't wish to respond to." Shadow responded, continuing to crunch on the carrot. "Oh, it's alright I guess...maybe you'll give me a answer soon." I said, he nodded and went off to help Gears. "So much for at least trying to get a answer to one of my questions." I mumbled, making sure Shadow didn't hear.

I wanted the answer so badly yet, the more I wanted it, the more I got confused. Why do I need an answer to a question that won't help me get back Gadget?
