So I was passing by when I heard a couple of adults talking about what 'we' like. By 'we' I mean, teens, preteens and the like. It got me thinking, what do we really like? That we can unanimously agree on. And voila this list was born. It's not really in order but meh, it'll work.
Smartphones: I has to put this as number one cos recent studies show that teenagers are addicted to their phones. Yours truly included unfortunately though I am trying to break the addiction. You have to have a phone, lots of things these days are tech based, so things are waaay easier.
Food: Some might argue but you have to admit that food belongs on this list. Yes, bodies are changing, hormones and whatnot but food is a necessity as well as pleasure. Ever heard of comfort food? Food can make you feel better even if it's just for a moment.
Music: The number one language all over. It's like this connecting factor. Music is proof that no matter what you've gone through, someone somewhere has been there and pulled through. Sometimes you listen to a song and you're like, "It's like she's in my head..." At least it's happened to me countless times. Music expresses emotions, it tells stories and warns of the consequences of actions that were taken recklessly. This also includes EDM that happens to be one of my favorites.
Whatsapp: I was gonna put it under the social media category then I decided against it. Whatsapp is like the number one social media app among naija teens. I can do without any other app except Whatsapp and Wattpad. A must have in all phones.
Internet : The world is at your fingertips, you can find anything, be anyone, be anonymous, say anything and yes go anywhere. You can make friends with total strangers, tell stories, exchange experiences, listen to music, blah de blah de blah. The invention of the internet made the world so much smaller. We have opportunities no other generation had. But like all forces, the internet can be used for either good or evil. It depends on you.
Google: Ah my good friend Google, the one I've used to avoid embarrassing myself by asking stupid questions. You can go anywhere, find anything with Google. Although there are other search engines, Google takes the cake.
Movies/Books: If you don't watch movies, you read books, if you don't read books, you watch movies. The ultimate past time, you'd be hard pressed to find a naija teen that doesn't do either. I do both especially with the same plot, like the Harry Potter franchise.
Doing Things Adults tell us not to do: This is one uniting factor. I'm not a particularly rebellious person, but telling me I can't do something is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. My classic response, "Oh really?" Listen to your parents kids, don't take my bad advice. Other than that, if a random person just tells me, "Don't do this", chances are I'll do it. Not something as stupid as doing drugs or whatever, just the little annoying quirky stuff.
Someone once told me, Telling me to do something I've already said I'd do is just you cementing the fact that I'll probably never do it.Television: 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Yay for TV! Some people don't really watch TV but I do and it's a great stress reliever. This also includes sports games and reality TV shows. And Telenovela and Indian movies. Did I miss anyone? Sports, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Telemundo and Zee world. Yep that's pretty much it. And no, I don't really like KUWTK, nor Telemundo. I barely tolerate Indian movies as it is.
Cartoons : Do I still love cartoons? Not really. Except some cartoons that don't come to mind now.
Anime: Some like it, some hate it but I think Anime is bae. Nuff said. If you're not watching it, better go and start now.
Hot Guys: This one's for my home girls. Ladies, do we or do we not like hot guys?
Of course, hot guys are not the bane of our existence unlike some guys who make girls theirs. But when I'm talking hot, I'm talking 🔥 hot. I'm talking, young Leonardo DiCaprio hot, I'm talking Chris Hemsworth hot, I'm talking Ethan and Grayson Dolan hot, I'm talking holy mcshizzle shirtless Shawn Mendes hot, Brandon Arreaga and Zion Kuwonu on fire hot. Alex Ekubo just entered the room hot. Lee Min Ho and Kim Bum hot.
At this point I have to take a deep breath to stop dreaming. But let's face it I can go on and on for hours but let me stop here. You guys'll notice that there's only one naija guy there. Please if you know any other one, let me know o.Selfies: Do I need to explain? Do I really need to explain? You fine o, you no fine o, selfies are all the rage everywhere. Neil Armstrong went to the moon and took only five pictures. An average teenager will go to Shoprite and take 30 selfies.
Snapchat: Personally I think snap chat is about useful as a hole in the head but hey the filters are fun so that counts. Instagram falls here too.
Fashion : People used to think that only girls were interested in fashion, news flash, guys are too. Both sexes battle for supremacy on this. Guys clean up nice too.
YouTube: Very handy for DIY stuff. My favorite YouTube channel is Matt Stefanina's. His dance moves are off the charts. I don't think there's a song he can't dance to. So yeah YouTube, for watching movies and interviews or just random stuff that'll make you wonder how the hell someone came up with it in the first place.
Parties: Parties aren't really my scene. Maybe cos I haven't been to a good one yet but anywayy, there are probably tons of awesome parties out there. Yes clubs also falls under parties. People that like to 'Turn Up', this is your Forte.
Video Games: I love watching people play but I can't play for shi- shizzle. Who wants to volunteer to teach me?
Dating: No explanation here in case my mother suddenly decides to read my book. So yeah, dating, uhun, NEXT!
Drinking and Drugs: As much as it pains me, this has to be here. No excuses. Some guys and girls do this. I mean how could they not? It's everywhere, on TV, in songs, on the internet. But um... So that.

Oh n I listened to Niall Horan's Slow Hands and oh my goodness, that song is the bomb.
I read Linda Howard's Mr Perfect and that book is all shades of humor, romance and mystery. Y'all know I hardly ever read romance. Mystery is my genre.
