Aaliyah
June 9, 1997

"Aaliyah haughton!" I heard my name get called.

I carefully walked up the stage to get my diploma. I'm graduating from Detroit high school for fine & performing arts, with a 4.0 GPA. After receiving my diploma I turned towards the crowd, smiling while they cheered for me and others. I finally did it.

After the ceremony I took a picture with my principal, Denise Davis cotton.

"Congratulations Aaliyah, continue doing what your doing" she said and hugged me

"Congratulations Aaliyah, continue doing what your doing" she said and hugged me.

I smiled "Thank you so much!" I let go and walked over towards my best friend kidada, swinging my arm over her shoulder "We did it!" I squealed.

"I know" she hugged me.

"Congratulations super star! I'm proud of you" My big brother rashad said coming over to me with flowers.

I laughed and hugged him "Thanks shad"

I then saw my baby girl running up to me with my parents walking behind her. She ran into my arms screaming "Congratulations mommy! You did it" She giggled.

Did I mention I have a daughter? I had her during sophomore year with my boyfriend devante. Everyone expected me to just drop out since I was young. I'll admit it wasn't easy taking care of her, maintaining my school work, and having a career but that only made me work harder. She's my everything. Devante rarely comes around, but she knows who her dad is.

"Thank you baby" I said kissing her all over the face.

"I'm so proud of you baby, this is a lot but you pulled through" my mom said as her and my dad hugged me "I knew you could do it" my pops said.

I smiled in awe "I'm proud of you too kidada"

"Thank you Mr.haughton" she hugged him.

My eyes wandered around looking for Sariyah until I saw her and rashad over at the snack table. I chuckled shaking my head.

"So are we going to Tammy's graduation party tonight?" Kidada asked pulling me to the side.

I nodded slowly "For sure but I have to see if my parents will watch sariyah"

"Why your parents always watching her? have you seen or talked to devante?"

I gave her a look "Now you know he isn't worry about neither one of us" I rolled my eyes "he irks me"

"The feeling is mutual" The devil spoke.
