It was always hard seeing him in the halls of your school. Girls would be flirting with him as he smirked at them, loving the attention. Your friends would try and distract you from seeing him but he just seemed to be everywhere you looked.
You two had broken up a couple of months ago after dating for a year. He just drifted from you and wanted to be a free man, not committed to anyone. Of course you were upset, after a year of being committed now he just didn't want to be with you anymore. You two were really great together, like dating your best friend. And that's what made the break up even worse, you felt like you lost your best friend too.
You sighed as you continued down the hall to your next class, trying to avoid looking at Tyler as you passed him. It seemed as if the girls laughter got louder as you passed, like they wanted you to look, but you head remained down as you walked.
You finally reached your class and sat down. Dylan, Tyler's best friend, was already in class, he gave you a small smile as he looked up at you while talking to his friend. You two had become close while you dated Tyler but sadly also drifted after the break up.
"Alright! So today we'll be starting a new section and I want us to get into pairs to work on the first activity!", you teacher said as she walked into class.
The class started to get into pairs, unfortunately this was the only class that you didn't have friends in. You frowned but looked around class and you saw Dylan coming towards you.
"Do you want to be my partner?", he asks and you nod. He sat down next to you as you played with your fingers.
"So how have you been?", he asked you and you just give him a look that says "really?". He chuckled, "Yeah sorry.. dumb question", he said and looked down.
"He misses you", he said randomly and you rolled your eyes.
"I bet he does", you said sarcastically.
"I'm serious.. he acts like he's all cool with it but trust me.. he misses having you around and talking to you. Even if it's just as a friend", he tells you and you turn to face him. You're kind of glad that he misses you.
"I miss him too", you say softly and look down at your work. Dylan places his hand on yours and gives it a small squeeze. You give him a tight lipped smile as you two start working. Between the activity, you two catch up and laugh, feeling more comfortable with each other. He admits that he's missed your friendship and you agree. When the bell rings for lunch you two walk out together to the canteen.
He's busy telling you a joke that you don't notice Tyler staring at you from his table. He's a bit upset and jealous, mixed with a little angry. He did miss you. He felt so lost without you, not knowing how to act around you anymore.
You finished laughing and gave Dylan a hug, "Thank Dyl, I appreciate the fact that you still made an effort with me", you say and he nods.
"I'm still rooting for you two to work it out", he admits and you smile.
"Me too", you admit and he smiles.
"I'll see you later", you say and he nods before heading off to join Tyler.

You get home after your volleyball practice and lay down on your bed. Thank goodness it's the weekend.
After you've showered, and put on shorts and a hoodie, you go downstairs and make yourself something to eat. Your parents were away for the weekend so you had the house to yourself. As you got comfortable on the couch, the doorbell rang.
