PROMPT: Carl Grimes ships you and Rick before it's even a thing.
You sat down on the hood of the car, watching as Rick siphoned gas from another car. You clutched your gun in your hands. You were suppose to be watching for walkers. Though you'd never admit it...that wasn't what you were looking at.
The herd of walkers had been piling against Alexandria's fence- and now more than ever it was important for you to be watching to make sure nothing went down. So you shook yourself out of it. Rick Grimes would still be there tomorrow to stare at.
Rick climbed to the top of the guard tower, followed by Ron, Jessie Anderson's son. The kid was bad news. "I do not like him." You whispered to yourself, inspecting him with the binoculars. "Me neither." Came an exhausted voice. The stench of sweat filled your nostrils. You put down the binoculars, examining Carl. "Carl!" You exclaimed, looking over the scratches on his face. His disheveled shirt and ruffled hair. "What the hell, man!" Carl panted, obviously out of breath. He said nothing, bowing his head. "Did you get in a fight?" You practically shouted, grabbing his chin and lifting his face up. Carl pushed your hand away, staying silent. "Hey! Keep your voice down." He hissed. You enlarged your eyes, letting go of his face. "Shit Carl- who do I have to kill?" You went instantly protective. Carl shook his head, looking up at his father and Ron. Ron seemed to be getting shooting tips from Rick? "Oh? That little shit? Is he the one that hurt you?" Carl nodded. You bit your lip, then continued talking to Carl. "What was the fight over?" Carl shrugged, picking at the grazed skin on his wrist. "Enid." "Right. Carl...you gotta listen to me when I say this. Even though I'd love to see you kick his scrawny ass to the ground...sometimes being the bigger better person wins you the girl in the end." Carl leant on the windshield of the car, staring up at the sky for a second. You nudged his arm, then lied down next to him. "So...you like her?" You questioned. Carl nodded slowly. "Then you should get her. It's as easy as that. In this world if you want something you get it. Otherwise people take it." You instructed. Carl shrugged. "Then what was that about being the bigger person?" "It was advice that if someone tries to play dirty, by fighting, don't do it. I mean, what does it prove? Of course every girl loves a guy to fight for her...but Ron is a literal rat, you know. He's the kind of guy that would eat his lunch by the dumpster at school. Most of the time guys like Ron will end up on their asses anyway- and if it can happen without you getting your hands dirty then that's the real win." What was the point of preaching to Carl. It was the blind leading the blind. You couldn't be a love coach if you were still too shy to make a move on the guy you spied on with binoculars. "Is that what you're doing? With my dad?" Carl asked innocently. You sat up abruptly. "Excuse me?" Carl sat up too, putting his hands in the air. "Sorry...it's just no secret that you like him." More like love him. Carl shouldn't know this though...was it that obvious that the two of you were in love. "And how is that?" Carl shrugged. "When we first got here...you and dad were speaking behind the house. Then he kissed you. It was quick and stuff...but I was really excited because I thought that maybe you and him could be something." "You saw that?" Your cheeks went a dark shade of pink. Carl nodded. "I didn't say anything. I was hoping I wouldn't have to. But I noticed that you guys haven't really been talking since then." You sighed, placing your head in your hands. "Listen buddy...it's complicated." Carl shook his head, smiling. "I don't see how! He likes you, you like him! You're perfect for each other. You told me that it's easy. If you want something, get it before someone takes it." Carl was being wise. Way beyond his years too. You watched Rick climb down the tower and fidgeted with your hands. "And you're okay with that?" You reaffirmed. Carl nodded. You picked yourself off of the car, ruffling Carl's hair.
You followed behind Rick, entering the house. You found him in the kitchen, getting formula for Judith. You sat on the table, pressing your lips into a thin line and watching him. He turned around, smiling slightly. "Y/n. Hey." He greeted. You smiled back. "Listen, Rick...what are we doing?" Rick instantly knew what you were talking about. "We're suppose to be adults! So why are we dealing with this like we're in high school and we have tiny little crushes. I don't have a crush on you, Rick, I'm in love with you." Rick nodded, taking time to listen and respect everything you were saying. He reached his hand over to your face, reaching over and holding it. You held his hand. "We should just be together- because life is too short to not spend every minute of it with you." You whispered. Rick smiled, pressing his lips to yours and kissing you. When you were done, you pulled him into a hug. It felt good in his arms. That was the way it was suppose to be.
"I wanna be with you." Rick whispered. You bowed your head, a small smile on your lips. "Good. Took us long enough."
