You woke up pretty early the next morning, slipping on a sweatshirt to fight off the nippy air. You walked downstairs, your feet making your stairs let out creaks in the quiet air. You didn't know why you were up so early, but you just knew you couldn't sleep any longer. All last night, your mind was full of the red haired man you literally bumped into the other day. You sighed, rubbing your face as you looked out the window. The sun was just barely peeking above the gray clouds, the same chilly weather as before. You slipped on your regular beanie, heading out the door. There were only few morning birds out and about, you being one of them. You put your headphones in, your music filling up your head."A warning, to the people...the good and the evil.
This is war..
To the soldier, the civilian, the martyr, the victim
This is war..
It's the moment of truth, and the moment to lie, the moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight!" (Obsessed with this song at the moment.)
You nodded along to the music, mouthing with it. You smiled to yourself, feeling the breeze brush by your cheek. You passed by a few people, your music blaring in your ears. You found your way to a small coffee shop, heading inside. You were grateful for the heat that wrapped around you as you pulled out one of your earbuds. The shop was nearly empty, seeing as people were still cozy in their beds at this time. It wasn't unusual for you to be up this early, you didn't sleep much anyways. You walked up to the counter, deciding what drink to order. You could hear your music squeaking out of the earbud dangling by your chest.
"What would you like to drink?" A deep and smooth voice asked you. You looked down, meeting eyes with a familiar pair of brown orbs. You felt a smile coming on your face as Mark's eyes widened with shock. Soon, his beautiful smile lit up his face as he chuckled.
"Well, looks like we would meet again." He said in amusement, watching you blush. You laughed and nodded, rubbing the back of your neck. He motioned towards the menu, bringing you back into the real world.
"Oh right. Well, since I'm feeling like a basic white girl, I'll have the Pumpkin Spice Latte." His smiled widened as he typed in the order in the register. You paid for your drink, staring at him. Today he wore his uniform red shirt, along with black slacks. You started getting nervous as you noticed he was wearing a shirt, his apron hanging over it. You examined his tan arms, your eyes scanning the clean skin. You were slightly relieved to have not seen any marks, but they could be anywhere. He handed you the change, the palm of his hand slightly red in the center. You slipped the money in your pocket, waving him goodbye as you went to sit down. You stole a few glances at him, blushing whenever you two locked eyes. You stared down at your hand, the urge to trace on it very strong. You held back though, telling yourself it was no use.
"(Y/N)." Mark called out, causing your head to look up. He smiled, holding up your drink. You made your way to him, thanking him and taking the warm drink. You went to sit back down when he called your name again.
"Umm..m-my break is right now. I was wondering if you wanted to maybe sit down and talk for a little bit?" He stuttered, shifting a little. You cleared your throat, nodding a little as he followed you back to your seat. You tried to stop your shaking hands as you wrapped your fingers around the cup. He sat down across from you, unable to keep the smile off of his face.
"So, what are you doing this early in the morning? I don't think I ever saw you in this place before." He asked, removing his cap to fix his messy, red hair.
"Um, I just thought a coffee would be nice other than from my kitchen. Plus, I couldn't sleep last night anyway." He nodded, holding his hat in his hands.
"Heh, me too actually. I had something on my mind." He said quietly, staring down at his hands. You felt your heart start to pound as you nodded to him, bringing the steaming cup away from your lips. You set it down, your hands resting on the table.
"S-So, I bet your girlfriend got pretty annoyed with that." You laughed lightly, kicking yourself for sounding stupid. Nice, now he totally knows you like him, you thought angrily. He shook his head, chuckling a little.
"Oh, um..I don't have a girlfriend." He said, giving you a small smile. You resisted the urge to cheer and just nodded along to him. You spread out your hand, looking down at it. He continued talking, rambling on nervously as you placed your finger on the back of your hand.
"So, you don't have a...soulmate?" You asked suddenly, cutting him off. He seemed shocked and caught off guard by your question, his cheeks turning red. He cleared his throat, composing himself before shaking his head.
"Uh...no..I don't have one actually. Sometimes, I don't think its for me. For all I know, they're lost." He rolled his eyes, frowning. You agreed with him quickly, both of you laughing at the common grounds the two of you shared. You tried to keep your breathing steady as you traced the word, "Mark" into your hand. You watched it swell up on your skin, your eyes going straight for his hands that were hidden under the table. You saw him look at you in suspicion, his eyebrows pulling together.
"What are y-"
"Let me see your hand!"
"Excuse me?"
"For God's sake, let me see your damn hand!" You were sweating by now, your hand trembling as you held it out to him. He jumped a little, nodding to you. He placed his hand in yours, his palm up. You gulped, glancing at his name on your skin. You took a deep breath, preparing yourself.
It was his name...written on the back of his hand...
"Oh my god.." You whispered, staring at both of the marks on each other's hand. Mark gasped, his eyes growing wide as it clicked into his hand. His face paled as he sputtered for words. You yelped as he gripped your wrist and pulled you outside, startling you. He pulled you out the door, into the cool air, and down the street. He finally stopped on the corner, spinning you around to face him.
"Mark, what the hell!?" He ran his hands quickly through his air, his eyes wide.
"I-I...I couldn't have my boss seeing what I'm a-about to do."
"What are you about to d-" You couldn't finish your sentence as his lips crashed on yours. You gasped, his arms pulling you tightly against him. You soon relaxed and melted into the sweet kiss. Your lips moved in sync with his as you hands gripped his shoulders. There you two were, caught in the sweet kiss as the chilly breeze surrounded you. Only when your chests ached for breath, did you two pull away. You took caught your breath, inches from each other.
"I have waited years to finally do this.." He said between gasps, holding you against him. You both were shaking, huge smile stretching your faces. You let tears run down your face as you tackled him with a hug. He let out a laugh, holding the back of your hand and burying his face in your neck. You squeezed tightly, pulling away to kiss his forehead.
"I thought I would never find you.." You said, kissing him several more times on the face. He chuckled and kissed you again, making your heart hammer against your chest. You moved the hair out of his eyes as he held up his hand and used his fingertip to write on his arm. You felt your arm tingle and pulled your sleeve up to examine the word he had written.
"Love." It was surrounded by a heart, making a smile appear on your face. You squealed and hugged him again, feeling his lips in your hair.
"I finally found my soulmate...."
