I tightened my grip on Sev's hand. I stared into the glaring eyes of Professor McGonagall, frozen. I swallowed hard.

How did I get myself into this mess? I never get in trouble! Why did I have to be so stupid?

I looked away from Professor McGonagall, too scared to stare any longer. I glanced at Sev. He mirrored my terrified expression.

"You." Professor McGonagall said in a voice too furious to describe. She pointed a finger at Sev. "Come with me."

"and you..." she pointed at me "stay here. I'll deal with you later."

Sev broke in. "She didn't do anything! It was all me! Don't blame her! Don't get her in trouble!"

"Sev!" I said angrily. I had done wrong and I was ready for my consequences. "I'm very sorry Professor McGonagall. Sev was only protecting himself and -"

"Stay here." Professor McGonagall repeated. I stayed rooted to the spot I was standing as she took Sev by the arm and dragged him down the hall. They than turned left and were out of sight.

What would they do to him? What will they do to me? What will mum and dad do if they heard that I got expelled in the first 4 weeks of school.

Then, another thought hit me. Sev was begging for James to not tell me something. Tell me what? Why was he keeping a secret from me? We tell each other everything! Well, I guess not...

I looked up and immediately saw rain coming down. I instinctively covered my head and looked down again but the rain didn't hit. I looked back and remembered the enchanted ceiling. I wondered how long it had been raining.

The double doors suddenly barged open and the nurse came in with a bed on wheels. She ran past me, almost pushing me over and sped towards where James lay, helpless. With a flick of her wand, James rose from the ground to the bed on wheels. The nurse began running out the doors from which she came and the bed, carrying James, followed her.

"Lily Evans." I heard Professor McGonagall's stern voice say. I bowed my head and followed her into a circular, almost empty room where Sev was waiting on a red chair with tears in his eyes. I looked back at Professor McGonagall. "Sit." she instructed. I walked slowly over to where Sev was sitting and sat down next to him.

We both looked up at Professor McGonagall bracing ourselves for the punishment in which was to come.

"Severus, you will be given detention every night for the rest of October, 3 weeks. " Sev simply nodded. "Lily, please head back to your common room. Severus, please stay here."

"Professor?" I looked up at Professor McGonagall.

"Head back to your common room." she repeated.

I looked at Sev and he smiled but I frowned back. What had he said to Professor McGonagall? I slowly walked over to the door.

"Lily?" Professor McGonagall said. "This is for you." She held out a folded note written on parchment. I took it and headed out the door. Once the door had closed behind me, I opened the envelope.

Miss Lily Evans,

You are invited to a dinner with the Slug Club on November 1st at 6:30 in my office. RSVP by owl by October 25.

-Professor Slughorn

The Slug Club? What's this about? I'll have to talk to Professor Slughorn tomorrow during potions.

I hurried back to Gryffindor tower.

"Password?" The fat lady asked as I stepped up to her.

"Squamae draconis" I answered running into the common room just as the door swung open. I found a hundred eyes all on me. I walked cautiously to the back of the room where Angie and Nathaniel were sitting.
