Chapter 28

"I swear....if I come back here in like 20 minutes and I hear you all talking I am going to throw something at every single one of you and it is going to hurt. I am an old lady I need to sleep..." Naomi told her youth walking toward the door after nearly 45 minutes of talking and laughing with the group trying to get them to sleep,.

'Okay, Mom." several of the boys yelled at her as they heard her walk away.

She walked into the other room where she and Rusty, along with a few other adult volunteers were sleeping. "They are out of control. But with what we're going to do the next few days they should be knocked out." she yawned flopping on a giant air mattress she brought with her. She clutched her phone for no reason rambling to the rest of the adults about the kids.

"Mimi..." she heard Rusty moan a few seconds later.

"What?" she asked.

"You're the only one still awake." she heard him say.

"Fineeee." she said looking up at her phone. Bruno should still be up.

I can't sleep what are you doing?

She waited not even two minutes to get his text back.

Laying in bed not able to sleep.

I'm having trouble too, but it's only 10 here. What did you do all day?

At the studio all day and just left a few minutes ago.

Did you get anything done?

She took a break from the rapid texts that they exchanged to figure out exactly what she was staying up for. She still felt the weight of Maggie on her shoulders but wasn't sure if she could talk to Bruno about it without causing him to get upset.

She looked at the second text she got from him about 15 minutes later finally deciding that she needed to tell him.

Our trip today was tough. We went to Cedars and we visited Maggie's little wing thing. It was just kind of, like I don't know. Weird. Like I know her now. Before I didn't really know her. But now I do.

Oh. Wow. What color did they paint the walls? She wanted them to be yellow.

She pressed send knowing that what she said about him may eat at him for a while. She didn't expect a response from him.

She read the text before she could respond he sent another.

"Oh my god." Naomi gasped to herself trying to be quiet through their conversation.

After that text she placed her phone on the side of her bed closing her eyes waiting for him to respond to her.

Across the country in New York City Bruno laid in a big cushy bed in a hotel room with the TV on in the background playing some late 90s made for TV movie from the Hallmark channel that he put on because the actress was hot. He yawned not hearing back from Mimi texting her again.

Noami's phone fell off to the side of the floor after she fell asleep and hit her phone off the mattress.
