"What is she doing?" Kevin asked all of his friends as they piled into Daniel's car to follow the misadventures of Bruno and Naomi.
"I don't know. I don't think I've seen her this drunk since the last time they were together...." Tamara told them. "I just don't want him to hurt her. Like he's just got so much going on and she's got a lot going on too..."
"But you were the one that wanted them together!" Leah yelled almost angry at Tamara.
"What?" Tamara asked.
"You were the one egging her on. Come on Tam. You're being a bit silly if you don't see the encouragement you're giving her..." Melissa told everyone.
"Okay. I might have pushed a little..." she admitted. "I will try to talk to her tonight about it." she said as they turned off the highway to the hidden restaurant and bar that turned into a great karaoke spot later in the evenings.
"Come on, come on, come onnnn...." Naomi stumbled toward her friends in the parking lot. "The list gets long...if we want to sing..."
"Oh God...." Tamara told everyone watching her run toward the DJ. Right behind her Bruno stood there waiting for her to come back to the group.
"Are you thinking what we're thinking?" Ryan leaned over to ask Daniel.
"Yuh-huh." Daniel said taking a drink that Tamara had bought them.
"I think I'm going to need this to get through the night...." Tamara said to them all.
By 1:30 in the morning Bruno and Naomi had sung three songs back to back four times to the crowd that had gathered finding out that Bruno was at the bar. They grabbed random people onto the small smoky stage and sang rap songs, oldies and more recent songs to the crowd. There were several pictures snapped of them and no one knew exactly what was going to happen the next morning. Thirty minutes later the dark evening lights faded to a bright white flouresecent light that signaled that the night was slowly coming to an end. Naomi held onto Tamara leading them out the door. "I want tacos!" Naomi declared reaching for the solo cup of water that her friend was holding. "But let me finish this first..."
"How old is she?" Leah asked.
"Tonight, 21. But let her go. She finished grad school this week." Tamara said eying Bruno who had quietly faded away with his friends to his car. "Hey...where are you going?" she asked Ryan.
"Home?" he asked.
"The girl wants tacos. We're getting tacos." Tamara told them.
"Yes! You have to come!" Naomi exclaimed pulling Bruno toward her. "Come with me...." she pleaded leaning her lips toward his ear whispering something in his ear.
"Yeah. Let's go." Bruno said pointing toward his car. "We'll meet y'all there. The place right no the corner, right?"
"Yeah. Let's just go there. It's easy to get home from there." Daniel said watching Tamara drag Naomi with them. They got in the car quickly shutting the door behind them. Before the door clicked Naomi felt a hand hit the back of her head.
"What the hell are you doing?" Tamara asked.
"What are you talking about? We're just having a fun night..." she told them all.
"Okay, you haven't acted like this since we were sophomores in college. Like with all those parties. Stop it." Tamara demanded. "And whatever you told him you were going to do to him when you got home...forget about it. You're coming home with us."
"Nothing is going to happen tonight. I told him he could sleep in my bed with me tonight instead of driving home since he's so far away. God." Naomi rolled her eyes seeing that they got to the taco place. "I just want a fucking barbocoa taco. Geez."
They finished eating and were all sober enough to realize how old they all were and that they were going to feel every single bit of their hangovers the next day. "Mims...are you going to be okay getting back with him?" Melissa asked running her fingers under her friend's eyes where eyeliner had run.
"Yeah. We're going to be fine. It's like 3 minutes away and we're just going to crash." she told Melissa.
"Don't do anything stupid...." Kevin interjected.
"I won't. I'm not dumb. I'm not making any life altering decisions tonight." she told them walking toward the car with Bruno.
"My lady..." he smiled opening the car door for her.
"I'll text you when we get home." she told Tamara.
"Yeah. Okay." she said to Naomi rolling her eyes. "She is in so much shit."
"What do they think we're going to do?" Bruno asked Naomi.
"I don't know." she told him leaning her head on the head rest closing her eyes. "You aren't going to get lost are you?" she asked him.
"Nope. We just turn left and then right and then past the light and you're on the right. We're good." he answered her yawning. "You better have a comfortable bed, Mimi."
"It's comfortable enough." she shrugged as they turned off the access road to her apartment. "Okay..." she told him stumbling to get her keys to her apartment. "It's kind of messy. Not like horribly messy..." she said turning on the small front lamp to get into her home.
"It's fine..." Bruno said to her reaching for her waist leaning in to her neck. She quickly wiggled out of his arms to go toward the kitchen. "More water and then bed." she said throwing him a bottle of water that landed near his foot.
"Mimi...." Bruno looked over to her kitchen table to see a familiar leather jacket on the chair. "Did I give this to you once?" he asked.
"Oh. No. It was in my car. I don't know where it came from. I figured I might have had it on when it was cold in there that night and forgot about it, but I don't really remember it. I was going to bring in by the studio for you. But since you're here you can take it tomorrow with you."
"That's just so weird. I haven't seen it since we met and then all the sudden it's right there." he told her.
"Ohhhh...maybe it's Maggie." she smiled at him walking toward the bedroom taking off her shirt not turning around so he could see her. She bent down, stretched and grabbed a t-shirt to put on and then took off her pants to put on shorts. "Ready for bed, Bruno Mars?" she asked him pointing to the bed.
"Yeah." he flopped on the bed after taking off his shirt and pants as well.
"But no touching..." she smirked at him getting into the bed. "But switch me. You're on my side of the bed."
"You have a side in your own bed?" he asked.
"I have a body pillow...." she said pointing to the pillow next to her. "I mean, I don't have a boyfriend or anything..."
"Oh...right..." he smiled at her pulling her near him. "Tonight you can have one."
What the hell just happened? She thought to herself feeling his arms around her waist holding her lightly. I mean. It's not bad or anything, it just..I don't know what tonight is going to lead to. Maybe even this was a bad idea....she thought to herself hearing the clock ticking in the other room and a few small noises suddenly seeing the figure that Bruno had spoken about. "Bruno..." she whispered. "Bruno..." she pushed him a little. "Is she here?" she asked.
"No, Mimi. Just go to sleep. You're drunker than I am." he said half asleep already.
"I might be...but over there...." she said pointing to the blinds near her sliding glass door.
"He can't see me, Naomi." Naomi heard a soft sweet voice, almost like her voice had been described. No. That's weird. She thought to herself.
"He needs you, Naomi. The things you say and do with him help. He's doing so much better than he was without you. I won't let this mess up for either of you." she told Naomi. Oh god. I am too drunk for this. She thought turning around to face the wall getting away from Bruno's arms.
