21: Grandpa Haymitch

Haymitch's POV

Effie and I have been sat out here for a while now. I hope the boy is taking it well I mean I'm sure he will but still there's always that worry.

"They'll be fine," Effie must have noticed my legs twitching, a sure sign that I'm nervous.

"I know." I smile hoping to reassure her as well as myself. She doesn't know about the baby yet I thought it would be best coming from them.

"Ermm Haymitch." That's the boy. I look up to see him walking towards us a great big smile on his face. Well at least that went well.

"How's things then my boy?" He knows exactly what I'm on about.

"She's good, we're good." I hold my hand out to him to shake but he pulls me into his embrace. He obviously knows I know about what happened before the quell.

"I'm here this time son. Don't you worry about a thing." I whisper to him just loud enough for him to hear but not Effie, it isn't my secret to tell.

"Ah hem. May I ask where my hug is boys?" Whoops I had almost forgot that Effie was stood there.

"Ha ha sorry Effie." The boy says as he steps over to hug her. "You guys can come in to see her if you like?"

"Need you ask?" We all laugh as we walk over to Katniss's room.

She just looks at us as we walk in ," would anyone care to enlighten me as to what is so funny?"

"The boys were just showing their love for eachother with a rather long hug" Effie struts in the room, I don't think she will ever quite get the capitol out of her!

"Hey Effie we better watch out," She says winking at Peeta to go along with it. But he doesn't.

"Aww but baby you know how much I love you" he say all soppily to her.

"Oh Peeta you ruined it man! I think we actually had Effie going for a minute there."

"Oh very funny you three." Effie just rolls her eyes unimpressed.

"Well Effie what would you say to me if I could tell you something that would make all out teasing worth it?" Katniss looks at her deadly serious as she says it, they're going to tell her.

I step closer to her and take her hand. "What has happened that is so bad that means that Haymitch has to hold my hand?"

"Hey I'm not that unemotional, give me some credit!" They all just laugh at me, "Anyway Effie what they want to tell you is a good thing, so loosen your corset a little." I know she doesn't wear them any more since she got rid of all of her capitol clothes but its just something I've always said to her and its kind of just stuck.

I nod at Katniss for her to continue. " Well Effie, this may come as a little bit of a surprise but I'm pregnant and I'd love it if you would be its godmother." Wow I didn't know she was going to say that.

Peeta takes over from Katniss and talks to me and Effie, "You two are like parents to us and although we understand you may think you're both a little too young to be grandparents we'd be so proud to say you were its godparents if that's what you'd prefer," Peeta turns to me as he talks this time,"that includes you too Haymitch. "

"Hey if we're going to do this properly I'm being Grandpa Haymitch"
