18: Internal battle

Peeta's POV

"Peeta please don't do this!" Wait what am I doing?  That's when I see her , Katniss. She's curled up in the corner if the room wincing in pain.

Good she's a mutt! I'm glad she's hurt!

Wait! No she's not! What am I saying I have to fight this!

But she killed my family!

I tighten my grip on the cat. how feeble, having to be protected by a cat.

"Peeta I love you please!"

She loves me? Katniss. My girlfriend. The love of my life that's who she is! I slump to the floor how could I have done this too her. I've gone weeks without an attack why now. Why is buttercup not moving? Oh god it was me.

"Peeta you monster! Buttercup was all I had left .. All I had left of her! And now I don't even have that! I don't have one single connection to Prim anymore!" The tears pouring from her eyes. Oh what have I done! I've hurt the one person that means the world to me. Her chest rises and falls as she struggles to breathe again from something I've done.

"Katn..." She cuts me off straight away.  Oh she's never going to forgive me after this.

"Don't you even bother you stay away from me you hear? Stay away!" She runs out the door and I don't even attempt to stop her. The last thing she wants right  now is me she made that much very clear.

I'll leave her be , maybe the distance will help her ... Even if it kills me in the process.

I spent the morning painting, locked up in my art room. I can't hurt anybody but me in here.  I can't bare not even talking to Katniss I need to at least know she is OK.

That's it I'm going to ring Haymitch, if she's anywhere that's where she will be.

I pick up the phone and dial through to Haymitch, it rings for what seems like forever but finally someone picks it up  don't even give them a chance to say hello,"Is she there?! Oh god please tell me she is!"

"Calm down sweetie she was here" Sweetie? Ohh it must be Effie, I was in the much of a panic I didn't pay attention to the voice just what they were saying.

"Was? Where is she now then?"

"Haymitch has just taken her to hospital, she was struggling to breathe and it caused her to black out, hitting the table as she fell down. I called an ambulance and they left no more than ten minutes ago." I must sigh louder then I thought, "I'm sorry Peeta she was in such a state and told us to not tell you she wasn't feeling too good as you would be mad at her for running away."

"Its OK Effie I understand after what happened, I just wanted to give her some space. Are they at the hospital now?"

"Yes. Just give me a minute and I'll drive you. I don't think its the best idea for you to drive after what has happened" She is probably right plus I don't want to be alone right noe knowing that Katniss is at the hospital and its all my fault.

"I'll be right over Effie."

This is a super quick chapter as I'm going to focus more on the next chapter where two of my pieces of foreshadowing are revealed!
