"Shizuka Hio was once in love with a human and turned him into a Level E by sharing her pure blood with him so that they could be together. You see, a Level E can retain their senses if they have the blood of the person who turned them. They traveled together and all was well until a pureblood family decided that they wanted to eliminate her lover and her. So, the Level E man she was deeply in love with was put on the vampire hunter's list. Zero Kiriyu's own parents were the ones to kill the innocent man...."

"Zero's parents were vampire hunters? Doesn't that make him a vampire hunter as well?" I inturrupted.

"Yes, quite ironic if you ask me." Maria responded with contained humor.

"Then what happened?" I asked.

"Shikuza attempted to kill them, what else? For that she was put behind bars and left to contimplate her thoughts and actions." she answered.

"She didn't kill them the first time she tried." I stated, but Maria took it as a question.

"No, she didn't. Her second opportunity although, arised when the Kuran pureblood family was getting rather annoyed by the vampire hunters inturrupting business that only vampires should know and no one else. Killing the Kiriyus and setting the hunters on a wild goose chase after the killer would provide them with the peace they desired. So, the Kurans paid Shizuka's bail and turned her lose. She got the revenge she wanted, and the Kurans got the hunters off their backs." She replied.

"Which also resulted in Zero being turned into a Level E." I added.

"Yes. She could have killed him, but I believe she let him live to remind the hunters that vampires are not to be reckoned with." Maria said softly, as if death were no big deal to her. 

She shifted position in her chair and continued talking.

"After that, my relative traveled from place to place, always alone and one step ahead of the hunters." Maria said.

"You're sure she was always alone?" I pressed, wanting to get any bit of information that might help me.

"That's how she prefered it after her one and only lover died." She said with a hint of sorrow.

"Do you know what her life was before she met the human? I mean, how many years ago was that?" I asked her.

"She successfully attacked the Kiriyu family and killed the members ten years ago, so, she must have at least met the human eleven to twelve years ago. Shizuka lived at the head family mansion until she was old enough to leave and live on her own. She never got along with any of our family members, no matter what status they held. After that, she just disappeared until she came back into light after the first attempt on the Kiriyu family. It's possible any number of things could have happened." Maria replied.

"Thank you, you've been a big help." I told her politely.

"It makes no difference to me who knows the family secrets." she said with a sigh.

The mirror blurred and then I could see my reflection once again.

"We have to find out what she was doing in the years she went missing." I turned around and looked Kogeta in the eye.

We'd been sorting through the documents for a couple of hours, checking dates and catogorizing them so.

"We need documents about her past eleven to twelve years, but no later than when she was sixteen years old." Kogeta thought out loud while throwing papers that were too young into a pile on the floor."That should put at least twenty years between her disappearance and her reappearance."
