Zayn

Brr Brr

I shuffle around in my bed, tuning out the annoying ringing noise I hear. But it gets louder, and more annoying. And I start to realise it's not just in my head but is actually a real, legit noise.

Brr Brr

I groan and roll over, fumbling my hands around my desk to find my phone. It vibrates in my hand and it takes a while but eventually I manage to push the decline button. Just as I go to put it down, it rings again.

"What?!" I huff, shoving the phone to my ear. I squint at the morning light, my eyes still not adjusting. A quick look at my bedside clock tells me it's eight o' freaking clock in the morning. Whoever is calling me at this damn time better have a good reason.

"Where is he?" Comes an Irish reply.

"Niall?" I croak.

"Oh, I'm glad you still know my name. Didn't call me Neil."

I sigh. "Niall, what are you talking about?" I have trouble understanding this kid at the best of times let alone when I'm half asleep.

"I'm talking about that son of a bitch you've replaced me with," he cries. "Where is he? Are you with him now? I bet you are, that's why you didn't answer straight away. That's it, isn't it? Huh? HUH?!"

"Yeah ... I'm going to go now."

"To be with him again? I can already see the memories you two are making together. I can feel you forgetting about me."

"Niall, are you hearing yourself right now? You're being ridiculous."

"Oh am I, Zayn? Am I?"

"I'm tired, Niall. It's eight in the morning."

"True friendship knows no time."

"What the fuck are you even on?"

"Look, I'm just worried."

I sigh and rub at my eyes. There's no way I'm getting back to sleep. "There's nothing to be worried about, Niall. I promise."

He sighs deeply. "Okay. Sorry. I-I just ... you mean a lot to me, Zayn. I don't want to lose you."

"Stop being such a homo."

"Okay. Sorry." There's some shuffling down the line. "Hey, listen, while I have you on the line I wanna tell you somethin'."

"What?"

"Well seeing you and Vi yesterday was really great, and it got Ave and I thinking."

I wait for him to continue.

"And we thought wouldn't it be cool if we could see all the others again."

"The others?" I question.

"Yeah, the gang."

"You mean, our friends from high school?" I can't help my lip curling up in disgust. High school feels like forever ago, same with the people in it. I've got Violet, Niall and Avery and that's all I really need to keep from the past.

"Yeah, yeah. Avery and I are planning a kind of get together," Niall says.

"Like a reunion..."

"Yeah! You interested?"

I rub my temples, thinking it over. "I don't know, Niall..." A reunion does not sound like a good idea at all. Things will be super awkward, especially with Liam. I don't see the point in continuing to live in the past. Everyone's moved on, they're starting new lives, can't we just get on with that?
