Violet
"Two chocolate milkshakes and one vanilla with a beef burger, a side of fries, a hot dog and some onion rings. Is that all for today?" The waitress who almost bursts out of her pink uniform beams down at us, setting down our orders.
I nod my head, smiling. "Thank you." I then look across at the face staring back at me and bring myself back to the reality of the situation I'm in.
Liam digs into his burger immediately, acting as if he hadn't had one in years. I don't touch my food, just watch him. It was his idea to bring Josh and I here, his shout, but I had no idea why. I had no idea why he was even in town, or why he was acting so nice. The last encounter we had didn't end so well.
"I'm going to use the bathroom." Josh excuses himself from our booth and heads towards the back of the restaurant, leaving Liam and I alone. I'm both grateful and terrified.
Liam continues to eat. He looks so out of place in his all black, freshly pressed and tailored suit. He looks, well, incredible to say the least. Everything about him. Eventually, I can't stand the not knowing and painful silence any longer.
"Liam, what are you doing?"
He looks up from his plate at the mention of his name. "Eating?" He swishes down his mouthful or burger with a sip of his milkshake. "You're not hungry?"
I roll my eyes. "I mean, in town. Why are you in London?"
He finishes his bite, swallows, and then sets his burger down. He looks at me carefully, like what he's about to say is going to change my life. "I'm here for a modelling gig."
"How long?"
"About two weeks."
My eyes almost fall out of my head. "Two weeks?!"
"Give or take, yeah. It's a big one."
I chew on a chip. "Okay, so why are you here now? With me?"
He sighs, he actually sighs like I'm giving him a headache. "Well, you and your friend needed a jump start and I had cables. Also, I was hungry."
I'm not getting it. There is a punch line to this whole thing and I am not getting it. What's the hidden meaning? What's the catch? What the hell is Liam up to?
Liam sees the worry on my face and sighs again. "Violet, I'm going to be in London for two weeks. We would run into each other eventually. And I didn't want it to be awkward."
"London is a big place," I state. "There would be a big chance that during your time here I wouldn't once run into you."
He shrugs. "True, but you'd see me in the media."
I chew on the inside of my lip, looking at him. There has to be a loophole somewhere in this whole thing, and I'm determined to find it. Liam made it pretty damn clear that he didn't want anything to do with me, or anyone from Westlake, anymore. Now he's back in town jumpstarting cars and taking me out to lunch at a roadside diner? What is his deal?
"I get that you're a bit uncomfortable-"
"The last time you were in town you punched my boyfriend in the face," I snap.
"The last time I was in town you broke my heart and ran off with your boyfriend," he retaliates.
"Ah, I get it now. You're here to continue to make me feel guilty for ruining your life."
He leans back, taking off his suit jacket and rolling up his shirt sleeves to his elbows. "I'm not here to make you feel guilty for anything, Vi. You're with Zayn now, I get it."
