Zayn

Violet was going insane.

I had assured her it was perfectly fine to feel upset and to take the day off from everything, but she wouldn't have any of it. She couldn't stop moving, couldn't stop doing whatever she possibly could to distract her from reality.

"Violet, you need to sleep. You're tired."

"I fine," she snaps in reply as she moves around her dorm with a vacuum. "Can you please move your shoes?"

I move my feet from the carpet. "Violet, babe, come on. You're not fooling anyone. It's okay to grieve. You just found out yesterday."

She doesn't answer, just continues vacuuming.

"Violet."

"I'm busy, Zayn."

"You're avoiding it."

She drops the vacuum. "I'm avoiding nothing! There's nothing I can do, Zayn! What do you expect me to do? Sit around and do nothing like I did as Willow was dying? Do you want me to live my life? Is that what you want? Like I did when Willow was losing hers? Is that what you're saying to me?"

I swallow. "Violet, it wasn't your fault-"

"Of course it's my fault!" She screams. "I didn't visit her. Zayn, I didn't tell her goodbye. She died all alone in that fucking hospital and she would have wondered what the hell she did wrong. Why I wasn't there. She would've been so scared, Zayn. And I didn't know. I had no fucking idea. Where was I? What the hell was I doing that was more important than Willow's life?"

"I-"

"She wasn't supposed to die. She was the one who wasn't ever supposed to die. She was supposed to grow up and live the life she always wanted. Willow was never supposed to die."

"Babe, I know what you must be feeling and I'm so sorry. But you can't blame yourself for this," I tell her.

"I don't know who else I'm supposed to blame," she says sadly.

It hurts to see her like this but it hurts even more to know that there's nothing I can do. To just sit back and watch the love of my life tear herself apart like I'm behind a glass wall I can't break. Because I know that the only person who can do anything is herself. She needs to deal with this in her own way, and she will. However long it takes.

"If you're not going to help clean, I'd like you to leave. Please."

I look at her as she goes back to vacuuming and I pick up a cloth and spray bottle. "I'll take the bathroom." I sigh before disappearing into the ensuite.

-----

"Are you hungry?"

"No."

"Do you want to watch a movie?"

"No."

"Can I get you anything?"

"I'm fine, Zayn."

I sigh, watching as Violet rearranges her closet. "You're not, Vi. I wish you would just realise that."

"I'm cleaning."

"Why?"

"Because I have to."

"You don't. It's just me, you don't have to fool anyone."

She sighs and drops the shirt in her hands before turning to me. "Thank you."

"For what?"

"For being here."
