Chapter 36 - The Promposal

Finn's P.O.V.

One and a half week has now gone since we came home from London and in two days it's our prom. Our school had one smaller dance for freshmen and sophomores on Friday which is being held in our school gym and then the big and real prom for the juniors and seniors are on Saturday at a much fancier venue. I wanted to ask Ellie to be my date but I didn't know how I should ask since I haven't really asked someone before and all the times I had tried to ask the words got stuck in my mouth. I had just come home from school and threw myself on my bed and stared up at the ceiling.

"Why is it so damn hard!" I said loudly to myself and groaned.

"Why is it to so damn hard doing what?" I heard a voice say all of a sudden.

I sat up and saw Nick in my doorway.

"You're home?" I said.

"Yeah, I'm right here. Now what's so damn hard?" He said.

"Asking someone to prom" I said.

"Are we talking about Ellie?" He said as he walked over to my bed.

"Yeah, I've tried to ask her but the words get stuck and I can't get anything out of my mouth" I said.

"What if you ask without having to say anything?" He said.

"I guess that'd be great but how would I do that?" I said.

"Make one of those cardboard signs that loads of people does" He said.

"Okay, but don't I need a theme for that? Like isn't it kinda boring just writing the words do you want to go to prom with me. Everyone always makes the signs really creative" I said.

"What about a Stranger Things theme? I mean you said she's a fan of the show and since you're in it it's perfect!" He said.

"Yes! That's perfect! And I could maybe incorporate El and Mike since I'm Mike and I call her El sometimes because her full name is Eleanor" I said and smiled.

"Yeah that'd be great, I'll let you work on it alone" He said as he left my room.

I got up and looked through the house for a big paper. When I finally found one I went back to my room and began to write. I decided to go with the line: Will you be the El to my Mike at Prom?

I wrote the text in the christmas light style and drew the colorful lights above each letter. As there was still some space at the bottom I decided to print out some pictures of me and Millie from the show. I quickly googled Mike and Eleven and chose two pictures, one where we where on the bike and one when we where slowdancing at the Snowball. When I had printed them out I took a scissor and cut out the two of us before I stuck them on each side on the bottom of the paper.

I looked at the finished result and smiled. I then looked at my phone. The clock where 5:10 pm, so I decided to go to Ellie's house and get it over with. I walked into Nick's room and persuaded him to drive me there so I didn't had to take the sign on the subway. We walked downstairs and was met by mom who where in the hallway and just had got home from work.

"Are you two going somewhere?" She asked.

"Yeah Finn's going to ask Ellie to prom and I'm driving him there because he's to lazy to take the sign on the subway" Nick said.

"Oh well good luck, I'm sure she'll say yes" Mom said and smiled.

"Thanks, we'll be back before dinner" I said.

We then walked out to Nick's car and he drove towards Ellie's house. When we arrived outside I got out and Nick stayed in the car. I walked up to the door. I really hope that Ellie's the one who answers the door, I thought to myself. Well here it goes, I raised my hand and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. I could hear steps on the other side and I held the sign infront of me so that you could see the text. All of a sudden the door opened and to my relief Ellie stood there.

"Oh hi Finn" She said before she noticed the sign and widened her eyes.

"Hi, I was just wondering if.... uhm... wanted to go to prom.... with me?" I said nervously.

"I.... I'd love too" She said and smiled widely.

"Really? Well cool" I said and smiled as I let out a sigh of relief.

"Ellie honey who's at the door?" Ellie's mom Laura said as she appeared behind Ellie "Hi Finn, nice seeing you again"

"Hi Laura" I said.

Laura then noticed my sign and a smile appeared on her lips.

"Is that a...." She began.

"It is and I said yes" Ellie cut her off and said.

"Aww, that's so sweet and it's even themed after his show. We have to document this, let me get my phone!" Laura said as she ran back into the kitchen.

"Mom!" Ellie said and blushed.

A few seconds later Laura came back and she told Ellie to go stand beside me and hold the sign together with me. She did and we smiled for the photo.

"Perfect!" Laura said and smiled as she put down her phone.

I let go of the sign and looked over at Ellie.

"If you want you can keep the sign" I said.

"Thanks" She said and smiled.

"Also I'm sorry I asked so late, I mean Prom is only 2 days away" I said.

"It's okay, I'm just happy you did" She said and giggled.

"Me too, well I guess I'll see you in school tomorrow" I said.

"Yeah, see you tomorrow" She said.

I said goodbye to her and her mom before I walked back to Nick in the car.

"How'd it go?" Nick said as he drove away.

"She said yes!" I said and smiled.

"Eyy well done lil bro! I'm very proud of you" He said and smiled.

When we arrived home I noticed that Ellie had tagged me in a photo on Instagram. I opened the app and was met by the photo of us with the promposal sign that her mom took of us with the caption: I'd lie if I didn't say that it wasn't a dream come true to get a Stranger Things themed Promposal by Mike Wheeler himself 😉 And obviously I said yes ❤️

I smiled and liked the picture. I then noticed that people in the comments where kind of freaking out about it and some even wrote that they swear that we're secretly dating which we actually aren't, atleast not yet.
