The animals these children hunted were huge, easily rivaling in size with Ursa Grimm! Ozpin had admittedly gaped when the boys easily took down a large boar, and pinned it down.
"HEY!" Ace called out to him, eyes suspicious but expectant. Snapping out of his surprise, the former Headmaster gripped his cane and ran forward to land the final blow. When he did, Ace made it known that he was unimpressed with the stare he gave Ozpin.
That strike took more out of the former professor than it should've. His aura was quickly returning his energy, but the problem was that he'd needed to replenish it at all. He'd have to train this body up again, and by the looks of the other boys' fit frames, sticking with them should do the trick.
Cooking and eating the boar was an interesting experience. Ozpin hadn't gutted nor skinned anything in ages, but knowing the basics helped prove to the boys that he really wasn't of any royal descent, or at least, wasn't of any threat to them and had already cut ties. It was while the two brunettes were stuffing their faces (he needed to ask how Luffy's cheeks could stretch to superhuman sizes) that Sabo approached him, a curious look on his face.
"Why did you leave?"
Ozpin, unaware of what the blonde meant, arched a brow. "Pardon?"
"You're definitely a noble, or was. Your clothes, your cane, and even the way you speak indicates noble heritage...so the question is: why did you leave? Because there's no other reason a noble kid like you would willingly leave unless..."
Ozpin fit the pieces together, and a soft smile grew on his face. These children knew hardship as well, more than what simple kids in a forest would have to deal with. Sabo's gaze was elsewhere, eyes firm and fists half-clenched.
"Perhaps," Ozpin began. "I could ask you the same thing."
Sabo jolted and stared at Ozpin in surprise. "How did you—? Did my father pay you to come here?"
Ozpin shook his head. "No, none of that. I'm not even from this island you know." Not from this entire world, really. "You yourself wear noble-like clothes. And sometimes, even with the little time I've been with you, you sometimes revert to old habits."
Ozpin stood up. "The way you walk, for example. You also sometimes use more vocabulary than an orphan boy would usually know."
"Hey! Ozzie! Sabo!"
The two looked to Luffy, who called. Sabo snorted once the call registered, and took a side glance to Ozpin. "Ozzie?"
The Headmaster simply sniled in amusement. Sabo glances back over to his brothers then the scene registers and is shocked.
"YOU ATE ALL THE FOOD!"
At Luffy's laugh, Ace's burp, and Sabo's indignant insults, Ozpin dusted off his pants and followed after with a smile. This is turning out to become an interesting experience.
