Chapter 4 - Change wing invasion

Hiccups POV:

"Finally done!" I looked at the new tail I made for toothless to replace the last one.

I go home from the forge and call Toothless. I put the new saddle on him.

"Looks pretty awesome, hey bud?" He gave me another gummy smile. "Want to go for a fly?"

Before I could even get an answer he picked me up and put me on his back and ran leaping off the cliff behind our house.

"TOOTHLESS! What are you doing!" Quickly I attached my prosthetic leg to the saddle and pulled up just before we went diving into a rocky forest. He gave me a cheeky grin and did a few spins. He was clearly excited to go flying again. He missed his tail after it broke a few weeks ago. He headed towards the ocean and up into the clouds.

"See this is more like it bud, not jumping off cliffs or spinning just gentle gliding." I said taking in the fresh air as we glided over the clouds.

Suddenly out of no where a herd of change wings came flying towards us. And I fell off the saddle.

"OH NO, OH NO, TOOTHLESS!" I pulled out my gliding suit but it was stuck and Toothless's tail wasn't put on gliding mode and so he came crashing down with me. I had to think fast. Luckily for me Astrid came from underneath us catching me on the back of Stormfly and catching Toothless before he fell into the ocean.

"Come on girl! Land on that cliff." She instructed Stormfly. The Deadly Nadder was struggling having to carry all the weight. So there we all were, trying to fly to a small island cliff. We were slowly crashing down but we landed on the cliff just in time. Well we didn't land, more like collapsed rolling on the smooth rocks as Stormfly couldn't carry us any longer.

"STORMFLY! You ok girl?" Astrid said worried and gave me a punch in the arm.

"Owwww, come on Astrid!" I said rubbing my arm

"Look what you did to my dragon!" She yelled at me. I looked over to see Stormfly lying on the ground tired.

"Let me explain Astrid." I tried to tell her.

"What's to explain? I see you flying toothless and then just happen to fall out of the sky and I have to come and save you." She yelled angrily cutting me off.

"Astrid, CHANGE WINGS! If you would just let me explain then I have a good reason." I tried to get her attention.

"Fine spill, and it better be a good excuse or else!" She threatened me.

"Toothless took off from Berk forcing me to fly him. When we were flying over the clouds a herd of change wings appeared out of no where and threw me off toothless. The reason you didn't see them is because they went invisible before they reached me and Toothless." I tried to find a good argument for my excuse.

"Fine that is a pretty good excuse." She told me now feeling sorry.

"Astrid, I'm..." I was cut off again.

"WAIT! What way were they heading!" She sounded concerned.

"Um, that way." I pointed. Then I suddenly realised what she meant.

"BERK!" We both said at once.

Stormfly was still week but she had enough energy to at least get back to Berk which was good. She gave me a quick kiss to cancel out that punch and we flew back home. There we realise that homes were being stolen from and food was missing. People were running around frantically and because I'm chief they just expected me to know what to do. How am I supposed to know what to do? How on Thors good planet am I supposed to catch dragons that go invisible at will.

My mum landed in front of me and Astrid.

"Chief what do we do?" The crowd all yelled at me at once.

"Hiccup!" My mum got my attention. "Come home and I can help you."

Astrid and I went to my house and sat down on the couch.

"What do we do? How are we supposed to drive away dragons we can't see off the island?" Astrid asked worried about the village.

"Hiccup that sword you have. One end sprays hideous zippleback gas, am I correct?" My mother asked me.

"Yeah." I responded. Hoping she wasn't expecting me to blow up the village.

"Well if you can replace the zippleback gas with smoke breath gas then the change wings can't hide from the smoke. They will be covered in it and they won't be able to blend in with their surroundings." Mum suggested

"That's a great idea mum, thanks!" I grabbed Astrid's hand and ran out the door where the whole village is waiting for an answer from me.

"OK EVERYONE! I know how to drive the change wings away! Stay calm and I will be back to Berk soon after I have what I need." I yelled at the hairy hooligan tribe.

"WAIT YOU CANT LEAVE US!" The crowd yelled back.

"I will return soon, I promise." I tried to calm the worried tribe. "My mother will be in charge while I'm away."

The crowd was silent as I left the front of my house and went to find the other members of the gang.

I gathered Snotlout, the twins, Fishlegs and Eret to tell them the plan.

"Ok everyone listen up. We're going to breakneck bog to find some smoke breaths so..." I was cut off by Fishlegs.

"Nooooo, not the fog monster!" Fishlegs screamed like a girl.

"Fishlegs we have been over this before and we even proved to you that there is no such thing as a fog monster. The fog is made by the smoke breaths." I tried to calm him down

"I'll happily join you. If you promise you will let me search for my shiny!" Snotlout interrupted.

"Are you kidding me Snotlout, you lost that necklace when we were fifteen. And you know smoke breaths make their nests by MELTING metal together so that 'shiny' of yours is probably long gone." I yelled at Snotlout.

"What do you know?!" Snotlout said as a comeback.

I shook my head and continued.

"We need to find the smoke breaths because their smoke can make change wings visible so we can move them off Berk." I finished

"Woah woah woah wait, are you telling me that you are going to drive change wings off Berk by putting smoke breaths on Berk!" Tuffnut said dumbly.

"No I'm going to replace their smoke with the hideous zippleback gas in my sword. So there will be no smoke breaths on Berk Tuffnut." I explained.

"Ohhhhh, right.... Wait since when did you have a sword?" Tuffnut questioned annoying me.

I looked at him with a frown and took out my sword which instantly lit itself on fire.

"Ohhh, right that one." Tuffnut corrected himself.

I put my sword away while I told everyone the plan.

"Ok so here is the plan...."
