Edward got to my side and looked at the little one. “She’s so sweet,” Edward told me and wanted to hold her. I gave her to him willingly and continued to watch her. “Her thoughts are full of your face; she really loves you with all her heart. She even missed you last night, when you were asleep. The only other face she really adores is Carlisle’s and she lightens up anytime one of you holds her and smiles. I’m not sure if it is a gift, but she is very capable of loving, even more so than you if that is possible. That is why she is so fixated on your face. She wants to show you that she loves you.”

I was astonished and didn’t say anything, Carlisle went to us; he apparently has heard everything. “Can you hear what she is thinking?” he asked. “Right now, it’s rather faces colors and emotions. Yet love is the dominant emotion,” Edward explained. “That is quite extraordinary for a newborn. They are not able to control anything in the first weeks and cannot distinguish faces properly. She seems to be developing faster in the mind,” Carlisle mused.

Carlie looked around in Edward’s arms and began to wail. Everyone’s attention was on her. “She wants her mother,” Edward said with a smile and handed her to me. I cuddled her and nuzzled her face, which calmed her down.

I let the others talk and went with her to the cradle. She seemed to look at it and I laid her inside. Carlie didn’t cry but was rather fascinated by the mobile; it was made of different colored crystals, which reflected the light that shone through the window and made multiple rainbows in the cradle and on us. She kicked around and was watching the little sparkles.

I sat down next to her on the sofa and lay my head on the cradle to watch her. Her big deep blue eyes were wide open and watched everything. I stroked her little head with the tuft of light blond hair. She really looked a lot like her father.

Suddenly Carlie looked up. I noticed that Carlisle stood next to me and hugged me close to him. “She is so fascinated with the crystals,” I told him smiling. He smiled at her and kissed me lovingly. All of a sudden Carlie smiled for the first time and put her little dimpled hands up. Carlisle picked her up and she smiled even more.
