I couldn’t see much in the dark, only a dark figure emerging slowly. I began to panic and looked for my phone to call Carlisle, but I could see it lying on the pavement together with my bag. The man was now crouching in front of me and sobs escaped my lips. I could hear his unpleasant snickering, before he said:” There is no escape,” with his disturbing nasal voice with a thick English accent. He grabbed my shoulders very hard and pushed me with force against the wall. I was too shocked to try to defend myself, although I doubt that it would have done something good. He grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. Tears were now flowing down freely. He grabbed my wrists hard and I couldn’t feel them anymore. I cried out in pain but I was silenced with his hand on my mouth. “Shush beautiful, just tell me where you hide the money,” he whispered. I finally tried to move away from him, but it was futile. “I don’t have much money with me…Everything I have is in my bag,” I choked out. I clutched myself in pain. It was everywhere…

I couldn’t believe that I would have to suffer the same pain again just like with Charles. I sobbed even harder, which made him slap me pretty hard. I sank to the floor because of the pain. He took the opportunity and pinned my down. “You’re lying. The way you look you have tons of money and jewelry,” he shouted angrily. “It’s the truth. Please, believe me. I’m only on vacation here. I was at the park. I don’t have money with me,” I sobbed. I could only cry, because I couldn’t possibly move my limps under his impossible iron grip. He cursed under his breath and held me even harder. “Well, then you will for your lies,” he announced with an evil grin and punched me hard in my stomach. My last coherent thought was: Please help my Carlisle. Then the pain was too much and I closed my eyes to try to bland everything out…

Before I passed out though I could feel a soft breeze followed by someone cowering over me and touched my face and pulse. I didn’t dare to open my eyes, afraid that another man had come to torment me more. Only when I was gently lifted in someone’s arms and I could hear a soft voice whispering soothing words into my ear, did I open my eyes to watch Carlisle’s devastated and worried face inches away from mine.

“Oh, Esme, are you fine? Where does it hurt?” he asked very fast, it was difficult to decipher every word. “Everything hurts so bad…although my head and my arms really hurt,” I admitted. To me, my voice sounded slurred and very quiet, but Carlisle heard me perfectly. He rushed upstairs into our room silently (fortunately there was no one at the reception) and placed me carefully on the bed. Just then did I notice that I was covered with his jacket. I took the hem and smelled it. It was kind of unnecessary because Carlisle was right next to me, but it calmed me down.
