*Shawn's POV*

I was sitting across from my best friend Y/n in the living room of my house. My parents were working and my sister was at a friends house. So, that left Y/n and I to hang out together on our day off from school.

We didn't know what to do at first, so we decided to just get out a few old board games and play them even though we were definitely a few years too old. After playing various games for a couple hours, we started playing Connect 4 which is basically just a slightly larger version of tic-tac-toe. We were pretty evenly matched.

"So, how's your girlfriend?" Y/n asked, placing one of the yellow pieces in a slot.

I did the same right after her. "Veronica's doing good. I think," I told, "That reminds me. I have to meet her for a date in half an hour." (This is a random girl name. Not hating on it at all)

"You're leaving me?" Y/n fake pouted, putting in another piece.

I laughed, "I've been with you all day!"

"I know," she smiled, "I should probably head back to my house so you can get ready. Oh wait-" She picked up a piece of the game since it was her turn and put it in, making a line of four yellows. "I win," she smirked and stood up to get her things.

"You tried to distract me on purpose!" I whined, grinning.

"Sure," she sarcastically called back, "I'll see you later you sore loser."

"Bye Y/n."

I heard the front door open and close before I looked down and realized that she had left me to clean up the game. I rolled my eyes but didn't really mind. We were best friends after all. We acted almost like siblings most of the time.

When the games were cleaned up, it was time for me to leave for my date with Veronica. I got into my car and drove to the ice cream shop we were meeting at. She was right inside the door, sitting at one of the tables and looking at something on her phone.

"Hi babe," I greeted once I got up to her. I kissed her cheek and sat down in the chair across from her.

"Hey," she said simply. However, she didn't even once look up from her phone.

Ugh, not this again, I thought to myself. There were some times when Veronica seemed to be completely transfixed on her phone and I hated it because it was always like I wasn't even there. I had no idea what she was even doing most of the time.

She continued to sit across from me, tapping and swiping on her phone with me just sitting there awkwardly. I started to play with my hands underneath the table because I didn't know what else to do.

"Um, do you want an ice cream or something?" I asked her.

"I'm not hungry," she responded.

This only made me feel worse. It was like she didn't even care that I was there. Was I doing something wrong? Or did she really not care about me at all?

I was getting more and more upset each second as I stared down at the tabletop. My eyes were starting to sting. "That's it, I'm leaving," I stated, standing up.

Veronica's hand that was holding her phone fell down from her face to the table. "What?" she asked.

I had so many emotions flying through my head and I had to let them out. "We both decided that we would get together today, but when we do all you do is stare at your phone! And you don't even talk to me or notice that I'm hating myself, thinking that it's my fault that you don't care," I almost shouted.

She just sat there staring at me, but she looked more annoyed than upset.

I said more calmly, "We're done. Don't bother calling or texting me anymore." And with that I walked out, jumping in my car, and driving as quickly as I could to Y/n's house.

*Y/n's POV*

There was a knock at my door after I had been at my house for around an hour.

I opened the door and Shawn stood there looking upset. I could tell he was trying to stop his bottom lip from trembling. And I knew from experience that it meant he was about to cry.

"Shawn, what's wrong?" I questioned, letting him inside and closing the door.

"I broke up with her," Shawn cried once we were sitting down in my room.

"What? Why?" I was never a huge fan of his Veronica, but I knew he loved her.

Shawn sniffed, "When I came and said hi to her, she barely even acknowledged I was there. She was just on her phone the whole time not even looking at me. So I broke up with her and left, b-but it feels terrible!" Tears were falling down his cheeks by the time he stopped speaking.

"Shawn, love, it's okay," I cooed, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and letting him lean on me, "She doesn't deserve you. If she can't see what an amazing, sweet guy you are, then you shouldn't be with her. You did the right thing."

"I'm not that amazing," he spoke quietly.

"Shawn, cut the act," I smiled, "You know you are and you deserve better than her."

"Yeah, I guess you're right," he smiled slightly, but still didn't seem himself.

I got an idea. "Hey, anything that will make you feel better, I'll do it," I told.

Shawn picked his head up from my shoulder and asked innocently, "Can we make muffins?"

I grinned, "Absolutely."
