The Love Triangle

Writers A and B (imagine them to act a bit like Bad Cop and Good Cop from the LEGO Movie, just as two separate characters) are sitting at their desk, planning the Rebooted season.

A: ... then PIXAL rushes to the production hall, and just as the screen turns black, we hear Zane's voice saying "Are we compatible now?" Aaand... The End.

B: Awww, I like that ending. But do you think we have enough plot for eight episodes?

A: If we need to fill a bit more time, we could just create some tension within the team. It's so boring how well they are all getting along...

B: And how are we supposed to achieve this?

A: Simple. The best way to strain the friendship between guys is to put a girl between them.

B: I thought we already had enough new characters this season?

A: Then we need to break up Nya and Jay. Couples in TV shows never just stay together anyway.

B: (eyes wide open) But... but they are sooo cute together. And the fans like them.

A: You are right. They are cute. Ugh, I hate cute. Mmh, maybe Nya could just be confused about her feelings, like having some weird machine tell her that she would make a better couple with someone else than Jay. So, then the two guys start fighting over her. And we'll sit back and see how it plays out. If the fans don't like it, we can then still have Nya and Jay get back together - heck, we could even make a whole season just about that!

B: (sighs) Alright. And who is this backstabbing traitor going to be? (mumbles) I'm going to turn him into a ghost, or something like that...

A: Let's have a look (looks at list of characters). Wu - no. He was their father's friend and he is their teacher, really can't do that. Garmadon - happy with Misako, already had his own love triangle when he was younger. What about Kai? He seems to be quite popular?

B: Ahm, he's Nya's brother.

A: Uhm, right. Zane - already has a love interest and is going to die. That's enough even for a nindroid. Lloyd?

B: Nooo, he's still a little kid inside. Plus, he has his separate storyline in the season. And having Jay argue with the Green Ninja would unnecessarily complicate things even more. What about Dareth?

A: Ah, c'mon. Not even Nya would be stupid enough to believe that!

B: Then, what about some creepy one-eyed mercenary three times her age?

A: You really don't want to see the guys fighting each other, huh? We said no more new characters this season. But we should keep that one in mind for later, I like him.

B: That leaves... Cole.

A: (smirks) Exactly. Handsome. Always underrated. Makes sacrifices for the team without getting any recognition. Even just got demoted from being the team's leader. He could definitely do with a little confidence boost. Perfect!

B: But... Cole would never betray his best friend! And he sees Nya as his cool honorary little sister...

A: Ah, everyone's going to act a bit OOC in this season. And don't forget that these Ninja are supposed to be teenagers. Of course, he'll be tempted when a pretty girl - and, in fact, the only girl around - wants to get into his pants.

B: (pulls disgusted face) Ugh, these are LEGO characters, they don't do that.

A: You should really start reading some fanfiction... but okay. If you insist on being such whimp, we'll just have Nya compliment his personality instead of his physical appearance.

B: (breaks down sobbing) Alright, I give up. You win.

A: (laughs evilly) Of course I win. I always do.
