"Ms. Middlebrook, Mr. Diggory, Potter, can I see you in my office?" Professor Dumbledore, asked grimly as he motioned to the stairs, leading towards the Headmaster's chambers. All three of you nodded, and followed him quietly.
"Here, take my hand," Cedric whispered, as he offered you his hand. You took it, gratefully, intertwining your fingers with his. He smiled down at you, as he pulled you closer, kissing the top of your head, gently.
You yawned tiredly, leaning into your fiancé's embrace, wishing all of the chaos, blanketing the world, would fade into nothingness.
You reached the top of the stairs, as Professor Dumbledore held open the door to his grand office, allowing each of you to file into the dimly lit room. Your professor, sighed exasperatedly, closing the door behind himself, and gesturing to the chairs in front of the glowing fireplace, as he took his place behind his desk.
Sitting down, carefully, you grasped Cedric's hand tightly in your own, trying to control the urge to panic. Trying to keep from shaking.
"I trust, that all three of you, understand the severity of the current situation. I'm sure, you can all grasp what this means," Professor Dumbledore murmured, solemnly.
The three of you nodded, in utter defeat. You closed your eyes, letting your head rest against the back of the cushioned chair, begging the heavens, to take all of the chaos back.
"What are we supposed to do? How do we end this, once and for all?" You asked, in complete and utter frustration, sitting up again, your eyes fluttering open.
"I don't think, it will be all that simple, Ms. Middlebrook," Professor Dumbledore, replied, making you clench your teeth in anger. Of course it wouldn't be that simple. The world was teetering on the edge of war, anguish, and destruction. There was nothing simple about that.
"There has to be something we can do in the mean time, Professor," Cedric, spoke up, rubbing soft, calming, circles into your knuckles. Dumbledore, sighed heavily, laying his head in his hands in frustration and exhaustion. Too much was happening in one night.
"I don't know if there is anything we can do, Mr. Diggory. I will, of course, alert the Ministry of Magic, but at this point, there is nothing more that we can do," Dumbledore whispered in complete defeat and despair.
You shook your head, clenching your teeth, and balling your hands into fists. There was no way you could sit still and pretend that everything was fine in the world. There was no way. You jumped to your feet, dropping Cedric's hand in the process, as all three men looked to you in complete surprise, startled by your sudden actions.
"No! I can't do that! I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't just sit on my ass and pretend everything in the world is sunshine and rainbows! Pretend that everything in this broken, fucked up world, is okay. Because it's not! It's a living hell! I refuse to sit by and watch everything I know and love go up in flames, at the hands of Lord Voldemort! There has to be something that we can do! Because I don't believe there is absolutely nothing we can do. I won't believe it! I won't! There has to be something! Anything!" You exclaimed.
Both Harry's and Cedric's mouths hung agape, as Professor Dumbledore smiled up at you, his eyes twinkling brightly.
"That's what I have always admired about you, Ms. Middlebrook. There has always been a fight burning inside of you. The need to do the right thing. The need to do more. I understand that you want to wage war on the evil that has so unfortunately plagued our lives, but you do not know Lord Voldemort, as I do. We must approach this situation with delicacy, or we will have no chance at all. I know you are aching to do something to rid us of our problems, but until further notice, there is nothing we can do, except find out for ourselves, exactly what we're going to be up against, and to prepare in the meantime," Dumbledore replied.
"Should we warn the others, that the Dark Lord has returned? Shouldn't we tell them?" Harry asked, timidly, finally finding his voice.
"I don't know. That's another situation we must approach with caution. For, we do not want to alarm the public, that being exactly what Tom wants," Your Professor, pointed out.
"So, what? Are we supposed to keep this a secret? While I respect, and understand, the choice of not wanting to alarm the public, but at the same time, they should be alarmed. Lord Voldemort has returned, and God only knows the havoc he will wreak! Throwing the wizarding world into chaos is a terrible idea, but don't we owe it to the public to tell them what we know? Considering, all of our lives, may very well be in danger," You countered, as Professor Dumbledore stroked his long white beard, deep in thought.
"Excellent point, Ms. Middlebrook, I will speak to Cornelius on this matter, and see how we should execute the news from here. But until then, the three of you, should return to your dormitories and lock your doors. You know the truth of the matter, and you must do everything in your power to keep yourselves safe, yes?" Dumbledore reasoned, as the three of you nodded. This was shaping up to be one hell of a night.
