The next day Marinette went to the doctor. The doctor only gave her medication for the attacks. The day after that she returned to school. The first thing to happen was Chloe approaching her while Alya was in the restroom. She stopped about five feet away from her and stared at her with a death glare. Marinette stared back blankly. Marinette counted down in her head and when she hit zero, she dashed off to the side.
Chloe stood there dumbfounded for a second before realizing what happened and chasing her. Marinette rounded a corner and hid.
"Where'd you go, bitch?" Chloe demanded. Marinette peeked around the corner and immediately took off running again when Chloe made eye contact with her.
She ran down halls and corridors and finally down a flight of stairs. She tripped on the second to last step, she squeezed her eyes closed waiting for the impact of the ground but it never came. She opened her eyes to see that Adrien had caught her. She stood up right and looked at her feet.
"Marinette, you okay?" Adrien asked picking up her fallen backpack and handing it to her.
"Um yeah. Thank you." She muttered.
"Oh Adrikinz!" The high pitched squeal made them both jump. Chloe latched onto Adrien's arm like a leach. Except leaches are easier to remove.
"Adrien, come hang out with me. Marinette will just get you into trouble." Chloe tugged at his arm.
"Uh sorry Chlo. Maybe later." Adrien responded with an uncomfortable laugh.
"Okay! Hey, Mari can we talk?" Chloe asked with fake cheeriness. Marinette glanced at Adrien for a second then back to the blonde hair, blue eyed bully and nodded. She followed Chloe to the locker room.
"Listen Mari-trash,". Chloe began as she shoved Marinette against the lockers.
"I have told you many times to stay away from Adrien. And since you haven't, now if you talk to any of your friends you will deal with me! And after I'm done with you, you'll wish you were dead." She hissed. Marinette held back tears. Chloe realized the girl and went to class.
Marinette decided she wasn't dealing with no more shit today so she headed out the door to go home. A pair of hazel eyes that saw everything that happened watched as she walked out the door.
Marinette pushed her way through a crowd of people heading to class. She walked passed Lila, Rose, Juleka, Alix, and Nathanael. They all looked at her shocked. She had the most unreadable expression it was terrifying. Tears streamed down her face and she had a mixture of sadness, anger, frustration, and numbness in her features. It sent chills down their spines.
She burst open the door to her home.
"'Ma-" Oh, maman isn't here. Or papa. Why are they never here when I need them?!' Marinette thought. She ran up to her room and collapsed on her floor crying. She curled up into a ball wanting disappear.
She picked herself up and walked to her desk drawer. She opened it and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, lighter, and blades against Tikki's wishes. Marinette locked herself in her bathroom and pulled out a cigarette. She sat on the counter smoking the cigarette and tapping the disintegrated pieces into the toilet. She honestly hated cigarettes. Despised them even. But she was desperate to make the pain disappear.
She tossed the cigarette into the toilet and flushed it down. She picked up the blade and pressed it against her skin, letting it slide. She made designs into her arm, like a heart. Lines and scratches went from her wrist all the way to her elbow. But in the center of all of the cuts and scars, lied the heart. She let the blood flood down her arm, finding peace in the scarlet red.
She smiled. She was proud of what she did to herself, thinking she deserved it. But she didn't. She might have thought she was doing herself justice, but in reality, her mind was going crazy.
At the school. Adrien was fidgeting bouncing his leg up and down. As Madame Bustier was facing the board writing down notes, Adrien turned around to face Alya.
"What happened to her?" He whispered pointing to the empty seat. Alya shrugged pursing her lips. Adrien turned back around and continued to fidget.
A piece of folded up paper fell in front of her. She raised and eyebrow and unfolded it.
Chloe happened.
-SnowAlya's eyes widened. She turned back to glance at Snow who was looking at the bored but felt Alya's stare. Snow nodded to the ombré haired girl to confirm what she wrote down was true.
Alya smacked Nino and Adrien on the shoulder and handed Nino the paper for them to read. They had the same reaction as Alya.
After school, Adrien, Alya, and Nino rushed to Marinette's house. They knocked on the door but no answer. They knocked again. No answer. And again. Again, no answer.
"Marinette. Come on girl open up." Alya pleaded. No answer. Alya huffed and started digging in her bag. She pulled out a bobbi pin and paper clip.
"You know how to pick locks?" Nino asked.
"How else do you think I get into private areas for evidence for my blog?" Alya asked sarcastically. She finished picking the lock and walked in. The three of them walked up the stairs to her room and opened the trap door quietly and peaked into her room.
She was just sitting in her desk chair working on a sketch. She was wearing sweatpants and a hoodie and her hair was down drooping around her face. Her face was unreadable but you could tell she was focused on her drawing.
"Marinette?" Alya said opening the door all the way. Marinette jumped at the sudden noise, falling out of her chair.
"Ow." She grunted.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." She apologized as they walked closer to her.
"It's fine." She sighed. She sat back down in her chair and looked at her sketch refusing to make eye contact with the others.
"Why weren't you in class?" Alya asked.
"Oh uh...my parents called and told me my grandfather wasn't doing well and didn't know if he would make it." She somewhat lied. Her parents did call her after she cleaned up her arm and told her he wasn't well. She stared at her hands and fiddled with her fingers.
"Oh, well, we're sorry to hear that." Alya said sympathetically. But she knew her friend was lying, she knew the truth.
"Are you okay?" Nino asked.
"Yeah. I'm fine." She said looking up at him with a smile.
Adrien studied her. She was pale and looked sick. Dark bags were under her eyes. Her eyes were dull and were kind of grayish now but it blended with the blue. Her hair had tangles in it and she kept fidgeting with her fingers.
"Okay, well we have to get going. Call us if you need anything." Alya said. Marinette nodded, tucking a price of loose hair behind her ear.
"Love you, girl." Alya said as she closed the trap door.
Marinette stared down at her nails that had chipped pale pink nail polished on it. She walked up to her loft and laid down on her bed. She didn't go to sleep she just laid there curled up in a ball. Tikki flew up and started petting Marinette's midnight blue hair. A few tears fell down her cheeks landing on the giant cat pillow. But she didn't feel sad. She just felt numb.
