He knew it had to happen.

Only one person could be the victor in this war.

There was a stinging pain in his heart as he sat in front of the unmoving body that belonged to his former friend.

He wanted to cry. He really did; the tears were bound to come out soon, but..

Her bright smile flashed in his thoughts. Its purity untainted, it provided a soothing warmth within him.

Ieyasu stood up. The determination was renewed in his eyes as he picked up his fallen rival's body.

This was for a brighter future. This happened for the warm rays of the sun to be felt across the land.

The sun rises from the East, as if symbolizing the victory of the Eastern Army. With heavy steps, he walked away from the sight of the sunrise.

He would give Mitsunari a proper burial before returning.

Ieyasu looked paler than usual as he walked forward. His shoulders drooped, hair messy, a few scratches and bruises on his skin, and his armor covered in dirt and splotches of blood.

However, he made it to his destination: under a tall cherry blossom tree.

He slid down its base and sat down, admiring the view. It wasn't the season for the blossoms to bloom, but still it provided him with peace and comfort.

After all, this was her favorite place.

Ieyasu's eyes were filled with nostalgia, remembering the moments he and his lover shared.

With the passing memories of their first meeting, of when they bonded together, of how they fell in love... He found it hard to control himself of his emotions.

He was lying to himself when he forgot what sadness was like. All the memories with his fallen brethren, lover, and those hard times he went through suddenly came back to him.

He restrained himself from crying because he didn't want to worry anyone more than they are now, but because he was alone, he can let it all out.

Ieyasu sobbed. Tears flowed down on his cheeks, but he didn't care. No one would be able to see him here, except for her spirit.

The breeze passing by him was unusually warm, as if to comfort him. He felt the warmth of his dear (F/N), and the tears just came down harder.

"I... I d-did it.." He choked, "I-I brought peace... to the land..! And... and.."

"I've returned... to you.. safely... I-I'm back home.. So please, keep watching over me..!" Ieyasu cried out.

That would be the last time he would cry like that. With memories of (F/N), Mitsunari, and everyone...

He created a peaceful world for those still alive. His promise was fulfilled, and now he could return to a peaceful life.
